Default Cmdr Straker: Failure!

As I've recently discovered, Commander Straker probably didn't very well as SHADO commander, as he finished his career as shuttle pilot between the Space Station V and Clavius base, in the moon

Ed Bishop performed the role of the Aries 1B pilot in 2001, and there's a scene when he descends to the passenger cabin to chat with Dr. Floyd. I've seen the film 2001 times and never realized it!!! Is this a well known fact between fans?

Apparently Ed had quite a bit of his screen time cut in 2001 as well, will we ever see the full extended cut of 2001 I wonder.

Ed Bishop was also the Navy Communications Officer in the
(Beford Incident )and look what happened to them at the end of the movie..BOOOM

He was in the James Bond Movie Diamonds are forever and let James
get through security...

He didnt have to much luck on Mouse on the moon as the american astronaut.

Straker has not has much luck in past jobs...At least he didnt wipe
out half the Shado staff like LT ellis did in the computer affair...
Man shes cute but dont get her near a microphone...

Ah ha, I am duly warned and informed

And while I suspect I am in the marked minority here, is there anyone out there who would be interested in starting a complemetary 'bucks list'... or whatever is the equivalent of a 'chick list' as I do believe it was called earlier?

And BTW.. it's Ms Cricket. (unless, of course, you were being properly naval )

Ahhh
Were on Cleopatras Barge..well thats a horse of a different color

I think the Guys on UFO are a better Crop than Space 1999
ED Straker,Alec Freeman ,Paul Foster ,Captain Watermen and Such

I liked on 1999 Professor Bergman and Alan Carter for the first season.
I liked Tony on the second season along with Alan Carter when he was on
but mosty of the Other guys were pretty lame...
Err that on A guys point of view....to say!!!

Default Deja Vu....?

Ed Bishop was in so many things...
He is also the space tracker at the start of Bond film "You Only Live Twice" (1967), made several guest appearances in shows like "The Saint" (both Black & white and colour), was in a memorable "The Protectors" ep "The Full Circle"...and a couple of "Professionals" eps too.
Ed was the American colonel who relieves "Colditz" in the final episode of the Robert Wagner / David McCallum series(1972)...and was, of course, the voice of "Captain Blue" (S.I.G. !)...and opening narrator of "Capt.Scarlett".

Wanda Ventham was in "The Saint", "Avengers" etc....she starred alongside The Late Ian Hendry in "Lotus Eaters" series...and was in several "Dr.Who" tales ("Image of the Fendahl", "Time & The Rani" )
Col.Virginia Lake was a fine character in the "Emma Peel" vein (she excells in "Timelash"...with her top buttons undone of course !)...but you DO miss Col.Alec Freeman, Gaye Ellis & co in those last nine eps of "U.F.O."

George Sewell was in hundreds of things from "Gideon's Way", "Randall & Hopkirk" (the ORIGINAL show...not that daft BBC nonsense), "Man in a Suitcase","Dr.Who" ("Remembrance of the Daleks"), "The Sweeney"and umpteen others...plus starred as Chief Inspr. Alan Craven in the 1973/74 series of "Special Branch" (forerunner of the "Sweeney" indeed), and as long suffering Super. Cottam in charge of Carrott & Powell as the ever bungling "Detectives"....a brilliant show !, - George had only signed to do the first 17 eps of "U.F.O"....and was quickly snapped up by the BBC for a regular role alongside Francis (voice of "Captain Scarlett") Matthews as "Paul Temple", hence George was not available for the final 9 Pinewood eps of "U.F.O."...
(once Gerry Anderson - also busy setting up "The Protectors" - got the "go ahead" to do a further batch of episodes, over at Pinewood, to finish up the show after, sadly, the American Networks vetoed a proper second series...that was to be set in 1999 on the moon at "Shado Moonbase Alpha"...hence the Eagles interceptors...)

My fav character of George's tho' is Col. Alec Freeman Deputy Commander of SHADO....both Ed & George...plus a few other later "U.F.O."regulars, had roles in Anderson's "Journey to the far side of the Sun" film.
Hope this is of interest....
