Seems like everyone has forgotten about the Mojave air/space port from which Spaceship 1 on it's carryer was launched from and I was there to see it.
Now the company that has built spaceship 2 has been doing drop testing of it over mojave. they are testing all the onbord systems and hope to have it and the new whiteknight 2 aircraft do a test flight and then it will move to the newer spaceport in AZ for it's launching and landing. |

The private space company revolution is underway, whether anyone knows it or not. Virgin Galactic is being joined by a small army of upcoming companies. Not as fast as any of us had hoped...thought we'd be on Mars by now...but it is happening. I do think it will change everything, and open up possibilities now only considered by nations. Once basic transport to orbit ant he moon is established, seems to me adding a lander would not be as big a deal. So, bring them all on!

yes they are building & testing spaceship 2 plus the carrier plane that will take it up to sbout 30,000 ft before releacing it for spacefigght. Oh a big news was in the newspaper last week. They guy who started the company and who flew around the world without haing to refuel the plane ( which was built in Mojave) is goint to retire and move to another state. He's quiting this fild totaly. But the company is planing on building at lest a total of 5 spaceship 2's.

Virgin Galactic is the company that will own spaceship 2 and it will sell places on spaceship 2 at the rate of only $200,000.00 to carry anyone into space.

In a local paper, the same company is going to build what will become the largest airplane to ever be flown. it will be used to carry rocket into high altude and launch them. the plane itself will have a wing span bigger that that of a 747
the next post will have the newsper drawing of the new big plane. Last edited by starlord; 24-12-2011 at 11:39 PM. |

the full flight and landing will happen there, but the testing of the craft will happen in Mojave. they are also the ones that have built the whiteknight 2 which not only can launch the spaceship 2 up and is also doing some flights that are being payed for by the Air Force

I watched the Dark Skies documentary recently on cable. Burt Rutan is a genius, I love his aircraft designs really unorthodox. He obviously has that rare talent that attracts people to work with him and stay loyal.
What a partnership between his company and Branson's Virgin empire, it really is a match made in heaven, there is hope for us all yet..... I have been looking for good line drawings to add to my research list, I am aware of the new kit from Revell and the one currently available from A Models but would like to produce something bigger, possibly a radio controlled flying version. Perhaps I should eMail Scaled Composites, they seem like a good bunch of guys and easy to deal with. I can feel another forum section being added.... |

Burt Rutan has retired and has moved to another state. I have some magazines that show the planes he designed and other people built.
if you had ever seen the KIT plane that could be built and flown you would never forget it. as I live a few miles from Mojave Air/Spacrport, I see them every once in a while. |

Scaled Composites is the company that not only is building the spaceship2s that will go to Virgin Galactic they are the ones that are building that BIG plane (they have not named it yet), it will be able to take unmaned rockets.

The original resin kit version of the original Spaceship one (1/72nd spaceship 1 & carrier - Sharkit I think?) sold out pretty quickly.
I'm pretty sure Fantastic Plastic did Spaceship one on it's own? Hannants are selling the A-model version. Revell's Commercial version of Spaceship 2 & carrier should be out by October should be excellent and relatively cheap in comparison to the above. |

I've never heard of Sharkit as the plane that carried spaceship1 up was named "White Knight " and they are building another Whitnight (Number 2) that when spaceship 2 goes to the space port in N.M. will be based there.

I think he meant 'Sharkit' was the name of the company producing the model kit...
