Default Buck Rogers Scorpion

A semi -regular guest ship in Buck's first season was the Scorpion Bomber-it's always been a favorite of mine and of course as ever there's sod all reference material-the two best pics over at Battlebuck, screen grabs and a couple of pics from Universal Hartland days so it's a mix of as accurate as poss plus filling in the blanks as best as...........

The filming minature cockpit was painted over presumably to avoid reflections ruining the mattes but I want mine to be transparent so a cockpit interior is fitted-tilll I screw up the canopy and over paint it!!

I love these kinds of pilot ships, they just look so feasible you could well imagine flying one.

Nice work mate.

A bit more done this week-second weapon pod built up and test fitted-fun part will be extending the wings out to fair them in once the hull top and bottom glued together finally.........

Main job has been replicating the big Radiator that sits atop the M60 deck as the source kit is currently unidentified.
I presume this is actually removable to cover the bottom mount but mines glued on!

Still need to figure what was used for the upper fuselage behind the cobra cockpit, and whether the clamps that wrap around the missiles are actually made from ejection seats-they look somewhat similar.

Thanks to the long weekend quite good progress made on the internals and the upper fuselage.
4 Short lengths of brass tube with wires soldered on epoxied into holes in the underside fore and aft-these form sockets for the 12v supply to the engine lights-brass pins on flying leads plug into these to complete the supply.
Rear sockets either side of the green cylindrical section:-

Front sockets inboard of the intakes either side of the nose:-

Wires from sockets and LED's soldered to PCB under the upper hull plate..

10mm White 12v jumbo LEDS mounted in brass tubes provide the engine effect......

...........but don't look directly into them............!!

A week off!! WOOHOO!!

Finally got the main hull halves glued together-also the low side vents finished off

I had to remount the F4 engine as it was sitting too deep between the intakes-luckily it came away fairly cleanly!!!!!

There's an odd shaped part at the rear which I think is a removable cover for the rear mounting point-it's impossible to see clearly and i think is missing from the model today so I'm building my own interpretation.

Nose and upper fuselage glued on,port wing extension built and faired in-starboard needs filing to shape and filling...........

Bit more work to do on weapon pods before mounting,Phoenix AAM is pretty much stock but the Sidewinder needs considerable fin alteration.

Sure-it's fun to build that's for sure!!

Fujimi 1/48 F 14A Tomcat
Revell 1/32 AH1-G Cobra
Revell 1/32 F4 Phantom
Tamiya 1/35 M60A1/A2
Airfix 1/24 Harrier
Airfix 1/24 Bf109E
Hasegawa 1/76 Leopold Rail-gun
Tamiya 1/35 8-RAD

Those are the kit's definitely used on the model that I can id-I've also used Tamiya Matilda,Panther A and 88mm bits too in the area's where little reference is available.

Oh well back to work tomorrow.......
Rather than paint the canopy framework I decided to try physically adding the framing using 10thou plastic sheet, knowing it could all go horribly wrong......

Touchwood it's come out far better than I hoped-some wrinkles that needed minor filling, and still some polishing and scratch removal to do,plus a couple more panels to add.

Started building the nose turret as well-a right mess of barrels this bit is!!!

I haven't done much over the last few days but today I've given in to temptation and given her a primer coat to see how it all blends in..........

Still some seam filling to do plus a lot more fine detail on the weapon pods and the rear underside. Then there's the tail fins...........

Engines still work tho................
