Default Steampunk retro advert tower

Thought ld share this finished model l made, wanted to create something a bit different from the usual steampunk made gadgets etc so l remember seeing old victorian advert posts in Paris and London so came up with this, its about 12'' high and is in 2 parts (the main pillar clips off to show victorian mechanisms). l will put other detailed macro pictures up if anyone would like to see more.

So, is the tower supposed to rotate, or the crown atop it? Either way, it looks real, and functional. Nice work!

That patina is just perfect all bronze and aged brass I could stare at it for hours.

There are just a couple of things that you could do, but I am sure it would be just "gilding the lily"

Change the posters to show versions of your other work maybe the Betty and Garter Guns for example.

And lastly add lengths of blackened cast iron chain between the posts on the base. I imagine this column to be between 10 and 12 feet in height so something to reflect that scale would be perfect.

Add a brass makers plate with some really grand message:
"Messers Darkview and Co. of London by Royal Appointment" perhaps?

More please.

Agreed - I'd love to see a tutorial, as to how to achieve that effect, having build a couple of Steampunky builds in the past.

I love the gates in the first pic, Darkview - they'd look great at the bottom of the drive.

Hi all, l've added some more posters, including my Bettie Blunder and Vipo Raptus guns, also added a brass chain thanks to Captain Sci-fi's input, cheers dude, when l first did the post l envisaged them to be force field poles but l warmed to captians idea for a chain link, l hunted around loads of second hand shops to get the quality of brass chain from old 70's lady necklaces ;-).

Indeed. The attention to detail is astonishing, matched only by the imagination which produced the idea from the onset.
I'd love to know how you produced the raised filigree.

Default Filigree details

I would make it from either net curtain or doilies, there are some amazing designs and once coated with thin PVA who would know?

I think you could try that for scale iron work fences or oak door straps, that kind of thing.

I don't have a clue what Dark actually used but his eye is sublime for this kind of detail.

I realised when I first looked at this project that what sold this for me was the cobble stone dais, it's perfectly in keeping with my idea of Victorian engineering and the quality of that era.

cheers fellas, the raised filigree are pattern sheets you get in old craft shops (for use of card makers l guess) you peel them off and l customed the pattern here and there. Just up from the cobbles, the base is a CD round 10 case ;-)

Thumbs up

And that's the clever art of the thing, the raised detail looks like it was always meant to be there - superb!

That's a great logo!

Thanks for the info, Darkview - it's much appreciated.
I'll have to investigate craft shops at some point, when I get a spare moment, which at this rate will be late next year!
