Again, as with the positioning of the scope, the painjob varies from episode to episode. The screencaps from The Infernal Machine show what I believe is the colour of the original toy gun. Other episodes (DD, Testament of Arcadia, The Metamorph) go with a flat black, which was my preference.

Birdie

sorry, I misunderstood your reference. Personally, I prefer the scope large end forward, as that is the way most scopes look.

Having said that, however, you have done it to your preference, and it looks amazing. I prefer the colour to that shown in the screencaps, and you have done the scope in the orientation that matches that colour, so more power to you.

I am in awe of both your references, your tenacity, and your ability. That makes 2 amazing weapons you have created, and I now look forward to the third!

Thanks to forum member Lt Dyson, I now have a pic (the first I've seen) of the toy gun used for the base of the laser rifle.

Unfortunately this pic of toyshop shelves stacked with the bloody things (front looks like a miltary Thompson) is too fuzzy to get any info on the gun maker or name. If anyone out there knows what this toy is, please let me know!

I have actually found the correct gun through the Ebay records on Worthpoint. It is indeed a Louis Marx toy, available from the mid-sixties in several different packages, under the name 'Copter Squad'.

They seem to be fairly scarce, no images on Google search, so it looks like I shall be scouring Ebay for the forseeable future!

Well, if you ever find the right one, I'll be happy to buy your 'wrong' one...would go great with my uniform!

Default First class.....

One of the things I like most about the Space 1999 areas of the Forum is the regular appearance of lovingly crafted replicas of ships, hardware or props which appeared infrequently on the show. This thread is a few perfect example. I always admired Helena for taking things into her own hands when she used the AP Laser to blow up the Eagle in "The Last Sunset". The posted picture of Alan Carter "tooled up" typifies everything that was exciting about 1999 and, low and behold, you've gone and built one of your own Birdie!!

Can't wait to see more examples of the finest Alphan weaponry, so please continue to enthral us with pictures of the construction phases and the finished articles. Good luck in your search for the raw materials as well!

Kindest regards,

Patrick

Yes they are VERY rare, as I said, I had one as a kid and by a miracle it survived till I was in my teens and I re watched the show, I recognised it and even cut down my toy to resemble the Alpha laser, but before I honed my modelling skills, it got lost/thrown away in a house move Years later I identified the other components and had a go at a scratchbuild-not a patch on yours though birdie

Birdie, did you ever find all the parts for the laser rifle?

I think I've got everything that was 'found' parts - the Kaiser shoulder stock/grip, and the Marx Copter Squad rifle for the receiver section. The rest is perspex and chromed tube. When I finally get time I will replace the scratch-built receiver with the toy part.

I do still intend to do the rocket gun as well, the only original part I have is the hand grip on the side, which is another camera hand grip. The assembly at the back back appears to be some sort of plumbing trap, but I've never found a match.

The handles/shoulder stock have also alluded me. Kind of looks like parts of a frame saw of some kind, but who knows?

Yes, the shoulder grip was indeed identified as some sort of vintage saw frame, good luck in finding that-I never did! The rear assembly-correct again a plumbing trap-looked extensively , but no modern match I think the side piece of the rear assembly looks like an old camera film tube/container

I built one ages ago, but cheated and did the 'corroded one' from Immunity Syndrome, which meant I could hide a multitude of sins and only needed the original camera handle part for the side, the rest I scratched.

I think you best bet for a accurate replica now is to go the route of 3D printing for the 'Grail' parts
