Default The Mole

I'm going to have a go at doing the Mole. So far, all I've done is obtain some kits and put together the SMT Vigor kit, but it is a start.

Started putting detail onto the girder bridge that forms the support for the drill section.

Nice one Kevin - however, if you don't mind any (hopefully constructive) comments:
The girder bridge struts are cut down. Also, the ends of the girder bridges are reversed. Sorry to point this out after you've put it together! You should to not be able to see much of the struts when the Atlas parts are fitted.
Nice find with the Hustler - you probably know you'll need 2 of these.
Finally, I don't think you'll need the Footbridge kit. The parts that look like 'steps' on the back of the Mole itself are actually parts from the Faller Cafe (which I see you have).

Gonna watch this with interest

Thanks ever so much for that, it has been doing my head in trying to work out why the bridge seems too short for the tractor! That explains that!

On the front of the tractor section of the Mole are two circular details, consisting of the B-58 engine nozzles mounted onto discs. Anybody know what the discs are?

I think mine were cut from some small plastic containers, which also left a little ridge (the red part).

I have added the detail to the Vigor kit and fixed the (now cut down!) girder bridge to it with a hinge. I did end up using those wheels for the front detail, thanks for the tip.

I don't know the Mole vehicle very well, but that is looking amazing.

Good luck with the rest of the build.

Thanks people, I really do appreciate the comments. Andy, you're not the only one who isn't familiar with the Mole, I showed a picture of it to someone recently as I'd told them I was building it. Their comment was, 'It's only a drill on wheels, how hard can that be?'

Looking the biz, well done Kev. That Vigor looks the part.

Have you thought about that dreaded drill-bit yet?

Thanks Yep, thought about the drill bit, thought 'that's going to be really hard' and then tried not to think about it! I may well try balsa covered in car body filler for the basic shape and possibly aluminium sheet for the cutting edges? I'm going to be able to put it off whilst I build the body.
