I don't know, but I suspect they would have just made a tube out of some plastic and then added lots of detail to it (mainly from the same kits as the tractor unit). Maybe someone here knows more?

Looking at photos of the left side (it's usually shot from the right side), it looks like a tube made of plastic sheet (as you say). You can see the seem line where it has been joined together.
In some shots for TV21, the tube looks damaged/melted. I would imagine the model didn't last too long after the series finished, even the tractor unit looks trashed in some shots (particularly at the back where it's all melted).

Started to add more detail to the tube. Suffering from a B-58 shortage (only got the one!), so improvising will have to take place, hence the top bulge composed partly of a B-58 drop tank and partly from milliput!

Kevin, your model is coming along great. Can't you make castings of the B-58 parts you need?

Thanks. As far as castings are concerned, I haven't the faintest idea about how you'd do it! I usually end up making parts from scratch if I've no choice and if I need more than one, I end up making more than one. I know that's a dumb way to do it, but I've never learned to do casting

This just gets more and more incredible...

I really have to start spotting models and toys used in the construction of Anderson craft and vehicles/machines.

Kevin; I admit that if you've never made a mold before in your life, it can be intimidating, but it really isn't. It does however require an investment in materials and equipment to get good results. I would be happy to mold up and cast parts for you, if your interested. I just bought more RTV and urethane for my Moon Bus and am in the process of makeing some molds now. It wouldn't be that much trouble. Let me know.

Thank you very much. I do appreciate the offer, I really do and I might take you up on it. There are only a few little bits so I may see how I get on. Very kind offer.

The detail above and below each of the tracks on the Mole body are made from long thin parts of the B-58. Each kit only comes with two and you need four (plus two more for detail on the tractor unit). This is my attempt to deal with that. The grey ones are from the kit (but I've had to remake the bits I'd used on the tractor) and the others are my scratchbuilt copies. I think once painted and weathered, they'll be close enough.

Plus, once they're weathered with plenty of dirt and stuff (which is the beauty of this model), you'll never notice they are copies!

Still waiting on the delivery of portholes! However, I thought I'd get some primer on it to see how it is looking.

Thank you It was a nice sunny day today, so what better way to spend it than by spraying heavy plant equipment?

(Sorry about the image orientation, Imageshack has its own ideas).

Now that is looking really good. Nothing like a bit of colour to transform a build.

Keep up the great work. Top work.

Thanks for the nice comments folks
I have added some more detail in the form of panel lines and the like. There remains lots and lots of weathering and an inordinate amount of decals, before I even think about making the drill!

Love the color. Gerry Anderson's models always had great paint jobs and Kevin, you're doing a wonderful job with this one.
