Default Favourite Spacecraft?

Hi All,

What's your favourite Blake's 7 spaceship?

LOL, that old chestnut of a question!

Apart from the mainstay ships, Liberator, Scorpio and Pursuit Ships, I was wondering if people had a favourite ship/s seen in the series?

I have several, but two that stand out as they look the part is Servalan/Sleer's season 4 command ship and the starliner 'Space Princess' from Gold.

Anyone else have a 'choice' ship or ships?

Cheers,

Andy

The System Chase Craft are cool, the London is convincing but I must admit, I'd quite like my own Spacemaster. (Would look good parked in the garden too).

How about the salad bowls that shot down the Scorpio from "Blake" !!!
Ahem..... NO ! lol

Seriously though I've always quite liked the hospital ship from "Powerplay".

Also the FT7 from "Sand", another Bill model, I'm lucky to own that one too, It's quite a big model and is packed away in a cupboard, when the weather gets a bit better I'll get it out in daylight and take some photos.

System Chase Craft are great, they look like they were built by the same people as Liberator and they certainly look sleek and fighter like.

Always loved the London, a very believable craft, the Shuttle and Eagle Freighter of the B7 universe.

LOL, would Fliss mind you having a Spacemaster parked in the garden???

Er, erm...... ......no, just no!

They always remind me of KP Outer Spacers!!!

The Hospital Ship and the FT7 were fabulous designs.

I loved the way the Hospital ship was shot, even if live action 'Sarran' wasn't quite the same as 'model' Sarran' for the landing sequence.

Maybe Servalan was picked up at night, and in a different area to those previously seen!

Do we know who made the model?

I've seem some design drawings in an old Starburst magazine, I think Jim Francis designed it didn't he?

I wish we could have seen more of the FT7, a great design again, congratulations to Bill.

You own that one as well, you lucky devil Andy.

Look forward to some nicer weather so you can take some photos.

I've seen it at a couple of events and as you say a large model, heavy too I guess!

Would love to see it photographed whilst flanked by a couple of Pursuit Ships!!

- Cheers,

Andy

Hi Guys!
The 'Salad Bowls' were designed and built by Ron Thornton - Babylon 5! (if I
remember correctly) Sorry Ron!
Cheers Bill.

Yikes!!

So, one of the best spacecraft on Blake's 7 was destroyed by one of the...............!

I had no idea who designed those craft, thank you for the info.

Bill, you wouldn't also know who built the season 3 Servalan command ship would you?

Cheers,

Andy

Hi Andy!
If you mean by the Servelan command ship - the white one with the red stripes,
the answer is Martin Bower! And what a fine job he did of it to!

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply.

That is indeed a very fine ship, one of my favourites, Martin certainly did a fantastic job.

The one I was enquiring about was the Servalan ship that preceeded that one:

I think it is affectionately known as the 'dead whale' in some circles!

Hi Andy,

If Im not mistaken it was designed be Steve Drewitt (another FX designer on season 3).
He liked quite organic shapes.

I never liked that one; not because of the design but because it was too alien looking, didn't match the tech of any of the ships in the show. Same goes for the 'salad bowels', they looked like toys...didn't give the impression that they were dangerous at all.

I liked the star liner from GOLD, and the FT7...always suspected it was a reference to the nostromo.

Thank you for the reply Andy.

Apologies to Steve Drewitt but that is the design I like the least in the whole series.

Did he do the Hospital ship? That was also 'organic' in design, personally I loved that ship.

Ham, me neither, I did not like it, both for the design and because as you say, it did not appear to fit in the same universe.

If there had been a fictional explaination in the show that Servalan had salvaged an Alien craft from the recent Intergalactic war as it was superior to anything available to the Federation then I think it would have sat better with me as a viewer.

Actually, nah, it wouldn't have, it would still have looked like a dead whale!!

Federation Space Command, good call, always looked impressive on screen, Dudley Simpsons accompanying musical score was also spot on.

I'm with Crimson Binome, The London and space station all the way...
Wander class cargo ship, Ore ship and the Atlay shuttle were believable too.
Big No No to the dead whale and salad bowls though....

Yes, the Atlay shuttle is a good one, I also like the Spacemaster and the Nova Queen.

They're all on the "build list" ... !!

The Nova Queen is a superb model, it looked great on screen.

I think it would quite easily fit into a sci-fi series today.

Good to see you back Phil.

Look forward to the detailed build on these....
Will they be studio scale or scaled down to match the London compared to the LARGE Liberator you built?
While on the "small London" subject, did you blog or document the build to accompany the pics on your flikr account? A most excellent mini-build, ( was that 2mm plasticard?)
Sorry to ask only i know you documented the liberator build on Horizon ( still awaiting my account approval ) but just wondered as i would love a go at using your london as an inspiration to create my own.
Good luck with the future builds Phil.

Another Andy......

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but here's a little something to be getting on with while you wait for your account to be approved - a complete set of drawings and "stuff" (including the graphic, for printing on waterslide paper) to get you started. I think I used 1.5mm (?) ABS sheet for a lot of the build, and some thinner styrene sheet for some of the finer bits. You'll have to busk it and fake your way through building it ... that's what I did!!

If you make sure the London "deck" image is 73mm wide, print it twice on to sticky labels and stick 'em straight on to the ABS, that will be the basis of the build.

There are reference photos on my Photobucket account here, I also have a couple of nice clear shots of the underside somewhere, I'll dig them out for you.

Don't forget to do a build diary on here ... or Horizon ... or both!!

Phil
