Default How to make a supermarionette

To make a supermarionette you need skill time and a great deal of patience
Step 1
The first step is to print off the attached images depending if your puppet is male or female
Step 2
I sculpted each individual puppet piece in plasticine and then took plaster moulds you can also do this with clay but i chose plasticine as it doesnt dry out and you can reuse it once you have taken the mold
Step 3
now that you have made the mold you can apply fibreglass once this is set then you can remove the pieces from the mold and do the next step
Step 4
now that you have done steps 1-3 you can do number 4 with the pieces of your puppet which should be in halves you can stick them together with tape once you have stuck them together you can now seal them with thin fibreglass applied with a brush you can now remove the tape and assemble your puppet

Default How to make the eye and lip mechanism

The eye mechanism is basically a rocker which pushes 2 bars from side to side moving the eyes in the desired direction i can not really explain this but you can see the basic design in many pictures of charecthars without the rear of there heads

The mouth mechanism
I did not make the electronic original version
I made a bar coming out of the back of the mouth witch when lifted opened the mouth and when lowered shut the mouth

sorry if this instructions was not as helpful as the last one the next one will be better

Hi Tibbington,

You need pictures, even a camera phone image would be very helpful.

Default Sculpting a head

to sculpt a head you need a material you can change shape with like clay or plasticine i used plasticine left over from making the bodie pieces so i used that
Step 1
Find a picture of the person or thing your head is modelled on or just sculpt as you go
Step 2
roll the clay or plasticine in to a ball and then roll like your rolling a sausage but only do this a little bit so it is oval you know have your basic head
Step 3
to make the neck you roll the material in to a thickish sausage
Step 4
you can now add lips a nose and some ears
Step 4 A
the lips roll plasticine into a thin sausage then stick it onto the head
Step 4 b
roll plasticine for the ears into a thin sausage and then curve as you stick on to the head you can shape then to your desired shape

Hope this was informative

Next post
wont happen for a few days as i am going on holiday sorry for any inconvenience

Not being funny but a few pictures would really help to illustrate what you're describing.

I made a few puppets only I managed to scale them down to the height of approximately 12" from head to toe, but only the mouth works, the eyes don't move (too small).
Four years ago, I decided to try, but my experiments failed, until two years ago I finally found a way to do it. I have made only 3 complete puppets, some need repairs, I've got enough bodies and head molds to for a dozen or more, only I can't get the hair.

I'll Post a picture of one of my puppets on later

to make a full size puppet the page needs to be twice as big which gives you 54 cm height or about 23 inches
good luck with your puppets

Cheers

Here is one of my puppets, please note I'm a terrible at making clothes, so they are basic and I am unable to make ears, so I use the head set to cover them up. The mouth works through a system I made by improvising as I went along.

Well to tell the truth, I made this puppet before I even knew of the plans on your page and I could show you an unfinished puppet body I was working on, because I can't take the clothes off. Basically the arms and legs have a chain-like attachment to the body and the hands are detachable. The body is made out of cardboard surrounded by paper and tape. Perhaps this rough sketch of the puppet body might help. The head is attached by a hook on the bottom of the neck to a wire below shoulder level which also attaches the arms to the shoulders.

It probably looks like cheap rubbish, but it seems to work, but it is terrible to handle.

He was meant to be based off me, and I've called him Captain Tyr

I hope this helps answer you question

My intention with this puppet was to put it in a series I 1/4 came up with called The Hornets. I tired to make it look like a spin-off to UFO, except with another planet with humans. Captain Tyr would lead a squadron of Hornet's, which are fighters that can operate in space and in an atmosphere like a conventional fighter aircraft, built to fight UFOs.

I wanted to make it look like Gerry Anderson's work not mine

To cut a long story as short as I can, you'll find a thread I made on the Hornets here

They may be cheap but they work, and that's what matters.
