Default Fan Built Federation Trooper Helmet

I was originally posting on T.F.U's thread, but I thought I should start an new as his is nearly finished.

I was also trying to create my own face mask, however after studying the subtle curves and deceptive shapes hidden by the matte black paint, I decided it was too difficult for me and gave up. So instead I've commission an artist to create one for me.

This is the final sculpt, which I'm very happy with. From this a fibre glass cast will be made.

That, my friend, is one very nice mask for the helmet.

Cheers.

It looks like the artist is planing on casting the whole thing, helmet included. Might work out a bit easier to build.

I hope so: it would save me a lot of work.

First Cast, painted in gloss to show any things that may need smoothing. As we know the actual helmets are matte black. The artist has included the full helmet as part of the cast, which should make things a lot easier to build.

It's bit weird to see this near completion, after looking for one for so long. Especially considering this has been scatch built - I think it looks spot on.

Model maker and train diorama 'water effect' plastic sheet, have you solved my textured outer ring problem?

We shall see...

I've made a little progress on this.

Sanded the helmet, primed then sanded again. I'm probably going to leave it at this level of smoothness. So I will be spraying the finished paint next.

I've cut the eye holes out and padded the inside, which just thinking about it now was a mistake as I need to drill through to attach the 'rings'.

I've moulded the first of the rings. In this instance one half of an inner fluorescent ring.

A quick try on to check the scale.

Cheers.

Managed to do a few bits today. Enough for a quick tack together.

Still to do:
Add textured outer ring - hopefully the material I need is in the post.
Black felt panel for badge - I've got the badge.
New visor - I'd like to use a thinner material which I can push close against the eye holes.
Some mesh to cover the holes under the tea strainer.

Hi Ham,
they are not mine to produce. I'll PM you regards getting in contact with the person who created the fan sculpt and castings.

In the meantime I've had a partial success!

The sample of textured material I've bought is too small and too thin.

However the thinness may work out okay (if I can't get thicker) as I could just wrap it around a slightly thicker material, perhaps even on both sides.
