Default Shado mobile question

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but can anyone point me in the correct direction. A few years ago Comet Miniatures produced a studio scale Shado mobile miniature. Now they dont stock them anymore, my question is , is their a similar product or what do(if any) 2nd hand built ones go for?

Again apologies if this is in the wrong domain.

Cheers

I'm not 100% certain but I think they were actually made by a guy called Mamas Pitsillis who can be found on Starship Modeler's site under the username "Mamas". He'd be your first point of contact. If it's not him, he can almost certainly point you in the right direction.

Haven't seen Mamas for some time...and have lost his e-mail address otherwise I would have helped out here...

He mastered this model and I'm sure he'll be able to assist with this if you can contact him through Starship Modeller...

Mamas has traded on ebay under the ebay id of marixan2
you could try sending an email to him via ebay.

I do have his email address but dont know if its against rules to post email addresses, if its ok let me know and I will post it or send me a PM for it.

May be best to check with Mamas first to see if he's OK with giving his contact details out, and then put them in touch via e-mail.

Hey Rocketman,

Mike here, i went that way as i had little time to scratch build one, so i bought one of the kits . David S. can also tell ya what a horror story this kit is, David talks about it here on the site somewhere. He built one for a buddy and had to cut it apart in many sections to try and make it fit the boggies and track it should. I have mine still but would'nt offer it to any one as i would have to live with that. Most sadly no one else has ever made a kit or even a shell yet. Believe me i would throw more money than a Pub makes in a night for a accurate studio scale shell. Hummm best pick the night of the week or that could be alot of pounds

I just want to spare you the empty wallet and hope and pray we can convince one of the superb artists on or site to do one.

I've certainly looked at it with a view to breaking it down for vacuum forming.

Unfortunately I don't have or am able to access a vacuum former.

Damn!

Does that mean I'll actually have to do some modelling for once

What size sheets can it take?

18" by 10" but you lose an inch where you clamp it so the working area is 17" by 9". Just big enough?

I've also got access to a 24" by 24" machine.

17 x 9 might just do it. I have printed out the side view photos that are available the best I can to what i think is "life Size" for the model. I'll get them out of the shed tomorrow. I already have some ideas of how the sections could break down. I'll try and do a breakdown sketch and post it here.

Don't hold your breath though - the wife's on a Spring/Autumn clean mission

I think the length might be a problem.

2mm ABS would be a good thickness to work with. ABS takes car paints very well. Unless you vac form into female moulds, it needs to be decided because you need to plan the moulds to take into account the thickness of material you're going to be using. Might do the cab in perspex.

Well this is goooooooooood news indeed.

I have often thought that someone could actually create a very health Biz for themselves.
Take our local artists like Mr. Trice because of his passion for eagles we were able to aquire perfect beaks for our eagles and decals. We all know the beak makes it or breaks it for eagles.
If we could find someone to make the eagle frame work in brass both scales this person could make some serious coin from private collectors who know how to finish a eagle they just need the help.
Or our other resident artist Mr. Sission, i ask whom here would'nt drop big coin for a casting of his TB 2 or Interceptor or in this threads case his shado mobile.
Were all builders here, finishing is no problem his amazing eye for form and detail has made him the best out there. Heck i wanted one of his mobiles so badly as i know he is such a perfectionist. I offered him the only surviving toned pencil views created by Mr. Trim for U.F.O. and used by the prop builders to created the filming models. They had never been published before but will now be in Mike's book.
So are there serious folks with coin to drop if someone is willing to do it right and master a pattern to mold. I firmly believe the answer is ,yes" and to protect the time and investment of the builder ask for all interested to put 50% down.
The answer is doing it justice as Mr. trice has done with all he produces as a collector you never have to second guess is this the right shape as you know time and care was taken to do it right from the start.
Having said that i also agree we are all not rich folk but you have to follow it up with well if you want a kick a** studio scale model that will hold to any pic when your done it's all worth it in my books.
So we need to buy a several pounds of rubber and get david very very drunk
