Round 2 own the moulds for the MPC and AMT back catalogue of kits. Thy're reissuing all the old Space 1999 kits apart from the Hawk though? It wasn't reissued back in 99 either. Mould lost or copyright issues?

I see Round 2 are also doing a Sulaco and a 1/1000 scale USS Reliant. Cool

There's some people over on SM saying the eagle has new detail but it's just the same old crappy kit with new decals.

Round 2 has done some good work with the Star Trek models in the past, including cleaning the moulds and fixing some of the problems with the original kits. While the Airfix Eagle is hardly state of the art if it sells well they "may" be persuaded to part with the money to produce a 21st century version of the Eagle, as I think they're doing with the Star Trek shuttle from the original series.

I imported the image to photoshop and still can't read the tiny white text

I'll send an eMail and ask the question but looking at the prototype it seems to be just the decals are new.

It would be good to have this kit back in production again, I bashed any number of these to make other models and some of the original props and models used parts from this kit. The Devil's Planet cityscape towers and Pilot Ship are two examples, there will be more I'm sure.

Obviously Jim Small has something to do with it. Looks, like only the decals are really new. But hey, you always could accurize your PE Eagles with these decals!

He also said elsewhere, that if we buy enough of the rereleased kits, there might be a new 22" Eagle from Round 2!!!!

Oh wow: 1800 posts....:-)

As to the Hawk model I think Hornby still have the moulds for it.

Thing is - relying on sales of a kit that many people might not buy because they've either already got it or they think it's rubbish might not be a good indicator of whether a new eagle kit would sell.

Interesting... I sent an email to Round 2 on 23rd March asking if they'd ever consider releasing a new version of the Eagle kit since they owned the old catalogue.

Like others, though, I was hoping that any kit they released would be appropriately upgraded - in the case of the Eagle this is going to take quite a bit of work. Guess I might as well stick with my AMT Eagle customization project for now

I have to agree with this, it makes little sense to release the kit "as is" it would be much better to ditch the moulds and start from scratch. It would be a great day if they could match the WARP kit for accuracy and level of detail it would be even better if they made a POD set, Lab Pod, Winch Pod etc, etc.

Unfortunately new moulds cost a lot of money, round 2 can not afford to take risks in the present economic climate we should be grateful that any company is prepared to release any kits of what can be termed a small niche market. Hopefully they will find success in this endeavour and we will have at least the possibility of a new mould of the Eagle and perhaps other Anderson products in the future. In other words take the bad now in the hope of a better tomorrow.

Let's face it,the people who are running those model kit companies are just
too lazy now to to put their hearts and souls to improve and upgrade all the details and the appearance of those classic kits by making them more accurate and with better quality that should go in to them.

That's what most most modelers are expecting to see them do.

Not sure I would go that far WA.

Mobius undertook a huge amount of work to improve and reissue the 4 windowed Seaview kit, then a new set of tools for the 8 windowed version. The large scale Seaview and Flying sub kits are just exquisite and a dream fulfilment for me. I think the market for Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and Space: 1999 are the same in collectors terms, I have no clue which has the larger populace of fans, I would like to think it was very close in number so the kit companies could look at a new version of the Eagle as a serious project. Star Trek kits of the most obscure ships seem to sell in a never ending stream so the market must be there.

I have to agree about the economic climate but when you look at the sky rocket prices for the PE collectables you have to wonder if the market has actually weakened at all. I would love to hear from the dealers at Wonderfest to see how it went for them. The fact that Round2 bought these old moulds and think that another go around would be profitable also says something.

Might be 'completely' wrong but it looks like the decals include such things as the passenger module bulkhead detail but then my eyesight is a little bit ropey!

Well, Round 2 does that all the time, but really only with Star Trek. Their retooled Enterprise Bridge looks amazing compared to what it was. I think in the past Jamie Hood of Round 2 has said that the only way a new-tool classic Eagle would be made is if the proposed remake was produced, reviving interest in the original. But plans change all the time...

Looks like they are having trouble finding the Hawk moulds.

I just read about it on Steve "CultTVMan" Iverson's site, news from Wonderfest:

Edit: (Oops - that's the same link that was already posted. Sorry, guys!)

Well guess what,I had just sent a message to Round-2 themselves requesting
that they should full retool the whole Eagle kit to become more accurate to
the original tv version.Since they announced that they will be releasing it
in next year, well I sudgested that they should take advantage of the time
to do that.

I just hope that they will take my advice to do that.

That's very good advice too.
I think it won't happen though. The old kit gets high prices on eBay, so it can be seen there is a demand for it, as is.
Just my thoughts. Thanks.
