Default The gun that killed Blake

I haven't found much info on this; the gun that Avon used to kill Blake.
Anyone built one?

biult by Bill Pearson in one of his quiet moments. Sold to the BBC when they needed a gun quickly. Originally came as a pistol, add-on butt, barrel extension and sighting system. Later copied in 1/3rd scale by M Bower for one of his female figures. I am sure photos have been on this forum in the past.

It was the first prop I ever wanted to build.
When I saw the final episode as a ~5 year old, I remember asking my dad if he would be able to help me make the flashing light
I tried to build one out of Lego, but it wasn't very good...

I found this photo in my archive. I'm sure it is the same gun.

Hi!
Thanks for the interest in The Gun.I built it as a concept for the final series.Unfortunately, they went with a Star Wars (in my opinion!) lookalike. For the last show-they bought it. I had to expand it in the penultimate episode as a Federation weapon.Hope to bring you some photos soon. Cheers, Bill.

Wow, a reply from the very man who made the prop!

I'd like to say thanks; I remember watching that last episode of Blake's 7 when I was five years old, and that prop left such an impression on me that it is still stuck in my mind, 32 years later!

I only have a few memories of the show, being so young when it aired.
I remember Gan's implant, Orac, the teleport bracelets, being afraid of Slave(!) and Avon trying to coax Vila out so he could kill him in Orbit.

The only other recollection that I have from my childhood viewings is my horror at watching the crew of the Scorpio being mowed down, and Avon standing there with that gun you built, smiling.

Edit: I just rewatched it, and I guess my five-year-old self was wrong about there being a flashing light on the tip of the gun, it was just the reflection of one of the lights in the room...

Hi Jamesbeat!
Yes I made and designed the Prop! Those were the days when you could! Now there are art departments who are new to The Game. God Help Us! Glad you have fond memories-so do I!
All the Best, Bill.

Wow, that's really something isn't it?
I (like most people, I imagine) do not have many clear memories from when I was five years old, but I remember that moment like it was yesterday.
It was the first time that I ever felt the urge to build a prop.
It's also a special memory because I remember being excited about watching that episode with my dad, and how we were both captivated with watching the last episode of Blakes 7.
I remember exactly how I felt, staring into the muzzle(s!) of that gun, and seeing Avon laughing.
Now, 32 or whatever years later, I get a message from the guy who built that prop!
Thank you, that made my day

Have you still got it? Remember what it's made of? Working drawings?

Hi Ham!
Sorry, but the Beeb owned the prop. It(the handgun part ) was used on Captain Zep Space Detective. It was scratchbuilt from 8th inch Acrylic sheet. No drawings-I made it up as I went along! Some shots on my City of Glasgow College Talk ,as referenced earlier.
All the Best, Bill.
