Default Halloween gorey Stuff

Hi guys,

Happy Halloween to you all !!!

The other day I was looking through a cupboard and found an interesting prop.
It's a neck prosthetic of a decapitated head.
It was attached to a actors neck and his body was hidden under a false floor.
This was used for a BBC comedy programme called Alexie Sayle Stuff from 1988.
This was sculpted by Stan Mitchell.

I think it's nice example of the kind of things BBC Visual Effects Department used to do, as a lot of people think we just used to make models.

I thought this would be nice to put on for Halloween.

Hope you enjoy.

Andy, it looks like you're in need of an Elastoplast the size of a Mini Metro!!

Is this the new "D-Plan" diet? The "D" stands for "decapitation" - lose pounds instantly by chopping your own head off!!

This was the kind of thing that the BBC at that time could do very well, all the departments were still there... Costume, Make up, Visual Effects, Design, and all used to work together to create a comedy sketch show, with some of the sketches only being 30 seconds to a minute long, on a 30 minute show.
I worked on the second season of this and I remember one day we had to blow up Brentford Park.
It was mid summer and was a bakeing hot day, and had been all summer, so the ground was like concreat, we had to dig in about 30 mortor bins (they are large very thick metal cones, designed to only through up what you put in them, as you dont know what is in the ground... as was realised when we started digging cos after about 2 inches in we found out the whole area was a reclamed site and was full of broken glass !!! you dont want that flying at anyone)
We had to do the bangs three times over cos the actor got his lines wrong... It took the whole day to do it...

This was because Alexie Sayle wanted a sketch about him entertaining the troops, but he wanted to do it in a real battle field.

Anyway,

Blimey, that's a lot of work for a short sketch ... but then if that's the desired effect, it's got to be done, no way around it!

The broken glass is probably more scary than the explosives - you'd need more than a handful of Elastoplasts if that had gone everywhere!
