Default Martian Fighting Machine

I know this has been done superbly already by someone else, but I'm having a go at the War of the Worlds fighting machine.
I cut out profiles in plasticard to give rough shape and then I shoved a load of balsa in to bulk it out. I'm going to do the body in sections so that I can squeeze the electrics in for the eye lights. I've started with the upper rear section, putting loads of milliput into it. The grooves are made by putting a piece of string across the wet milliput. Tonnes of sanding awaits.

I've finally got back to my latest project. I have done more balsa, milliput, sanding and have got a little further.

I have installed my usual, neat wiring in order to provide lighting for the 'eyes'.

Thanks folks. I have used the same technique on the lower hull. The shape of this thing is beginning to appear.

I have made a cover for the battery compartment out of plasticard. It is held in place with velcro. I've also used plasticard to make the keel and fitted the light switch into it.

More detail added, using basically the same method. It's an awkward beast to work on because it slopes in every direction and keeps trying to get away!

I've started the legs. I'm using aluminium and plastic rods (because they were what I had!). The 'elbow' joints are made of plasticard and plastic tubing. They are bulked out with milliput. I need to do a lot of work on them yet.

Default First class.....

All these wee pictures are great Kevin - a real insight into the different stages of construction. Fiddly and time-consuming, I'd imagine, but it'll be well worth it at the end up.

Kindest regards

Patrick

Thanks people. I have made the legs out of a combination of brass, aluminium and plastic tubing (again just because that is what was available).

Don't know about a black belt, I wish I had shares in milliput.
