Default Firestorm

Looks like Jamie is trying to get a new puppet series of Firestorm launched using Kickstarter. It seems the original concept differed from the original anime offering and it is a development of that we can look forward to if he gets the funding. Most importantly though is the news it will be all physical effects and puppets using 'Ultramarionation' though its anybody's guess what that actually is at this point.

So, I was wondering, what do people here think about this news, particularly as it appears we might be treated to some traditional FX (explosions...give us explosions). Is there a place for CGI in a production like this or would people prefer to keep it entirely 'old school'.

Looks interesting, I own the original Anime series on DVD, the ships are cool, but the stories and character anime is run of the mill. This could be really good if handled well, I've always wanted to scatchbuild the submarine and fighter from the show. Maybe one day they will be available in kit form?

I'll be watching with interest....

It will be interesting to see the 'target' for the fund, it's going to be in a different league to the book series funding. Even for a pilot, we've got to be talking hundreds of thousands

I have just found out Jaime's Kickstarters effort to create a puppet series
version of the late Maestro's venture into anime"FireStorm".It's a real
shame that it wasn't dubbed into English for the U.S. and Canadian markets
when he had the chance.

I would have loved to seen it if it had,I am a bit of an anime fan myself.

I got my box set of it, from FAB gear USA, in about 2004, I think
It wasn't dubbed into English, but had English (well sort of) subtitles, which made it possible to watch. But to be honest, the best bits were the dogfights and the Storm Force craft launch sequences

Yeah, I couldn't resist backing this one.

They've got some very impressive names attached to it and the guys making the puppets, Mackinnon & Saunders, are awesome. I spent a few days there last year training new animators (on a totally different project I should add).

They've reached over 60% of their initial target already... in a couple of days. Good luck to them!

Yeah, let's hope Jamie gets some spots on TV & radio promoting it, I urge everybody who can afford it to pitch in. I know some people consider this a controversial way to raise funds (letting the public foot the bill) but Anderson entertainment will have shelled out already, and let's be honest, this is probably the ONLY way a show like this can be made now as most TV execs are young guns, who prob don't know care about the heritage here, as well as the value!

Only if Jaime and his creative staff at Anderson Ent would consider using
well proportioned bodies for the characters of this reboot version for the
anime series that his father had created at the start of the new millennium.
