Default My first Dinky white Eagle project

Hi,These are pictures of my very first eagle transformation.I have never done anything like this before but ended up with, what i think, quite a nice looking eagle. The first two photo's are of the original scratched eagle.I took the whole eagle apart and used caustic soda to remove the paint.I then sprayed the metal with Halfords matt white enamel spray paint and then used an artists brush to pick out the detail. Finally i added some stickers off ebay and used new red thrusters to match my white and red scheme.
I know its not perfect but this is my first go so please go kindly on me.

Default First attemt, first class.....

Another Eagle that had seen better days brought back to full life - well done indeed. Some will say that this kind of project detracts from the original toy but for me it's a great improvement. Thanks for letting us see all of the lovely photographs, and let this be the first of many Eagle projects.

Kindest regards,

Patrick

I have repainted a Shado Mobile and MSV - I've thought of an Eagle and this shows what it could look like - well done

Thanks for your kind replies guys.I spent my youth flying a green and blue eagle round the garden and watching the show every Sunday afternoon in the eighties(rerun). For me,the models used in the show were top class and have read somewhere that the guys who did 2001 movie then went on to help on Space 1999.Ah happy days!

Hi Videodoctor..... nice looking Eagle there
I did one a couple of years ago that is virtually identical.... I kept the red thrusters, red engine bottles, and even the red pod doors.
i chose that look because it made the toy look more like the 'real thing', but still kept the Dinky 'toy' flavour as well
Nice one!!

I have just ordered another green one off ebay so that i can restore it over Christmas (gets me away from the wife).

I have put the one you see in the pictures on Ebay. I would post a link but don't know if its allowed on here.Any way its listed under white eagle.

Looking forward to doing another.I will probably move onto the bigger kit ones when i have mastered the Dinky ones

Well done Videodoctor ! I love the chrome vertical thrusters under the Eagle.
I'm restoring some Dinky Eagle's too.But at the moment i have some issues while screwing back together the upper-mold to the under-mold.
They didn't fit tightly together.(a small gap between).Especially at the landing-pods.Your model has the same issue.Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

I've also read you got some stickers off Ebay. The stickers/decals i ordered seems too small for the model.Yours a the right size.Where did you get them?

I got the decals from here:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ONE-SET-of...item3ce81c4030

Delivery to UK was about 9 days.

I can't say i'd noticed the gap on my Eagle.I would say its due to the screws being in the middle of the toy and not near the ends to pull it together.

Cuz you're an longtime Ebay member, i would like to have your opinion about a sell this weekend of an Freighter.
This item has been sold for 87.57 ! Why would anyone pay that much for a secondhand, uncomplete and damaged item (and repro box) while you can buy a new one(undamaged and with original box) for around 90?

I am finding people seem to like the dinky eagles in white but why anyone would pay as much as that for the one above is beyond me.It seems to be luck of the draw as to how much eagles end up going for.Round Christmas the price went up alot but have started to drop again now.Ending the auction on a Sunday night seems to attract the most bidders.

Let's just say the seller got lucky.

I think my biggest problem when it comes to selling Eagle on Ebay is, that im listed as an international seller and will always pop-up last in the default-search of GB which is the biggest market (plus the additional higher shipping prices).

Also, the pod-windows on your new Eagle were painted black with white stripes.

Who did you do the white lines? Are they painted or did you use a fineliner?

i sprayed the back of the clear windows fully with matt black paint and let them dry.
Then i used masking tape on the front to pick out the two lines while covering the rest of the plastic. Then i used white acrylic paint in the lines. You dont have to be too careful because after the paint has dried you just peel off the tape to reveal two white straight lines!.

I also use this method for all the black highlighting on the eagle including the nose cone black. As long as your masking is straight and fixed firmly then you can paint over it and when you peel it back you get perfect straight lines.
