Default Kirbi/Vollmer - which is the one?

Hi Guys,

I need some advise, I have found a company who sells trackside railway kits.
They are Pricy, so which kit do I need?

There is an Oil Refinery kit and I'm sure that it is the one used in Stingray and Thunderbirds, but it is not Kibri it's Vollmer.

The kit number is 45525 - is this the kit I need? it's list price is 50!

Any help very much appreciated...

Sorry for the late reply on this!

Well, the confusing answer is they used both Vollmer AND Kibri kits in Thunderbirds (I haven't really studied the Stingray models so I'm not sure about those.....)

What you're looking for if you want the period kits are:

Vollmer Hydro Boiler No. 5515, 5513, 5516, 5512, 5514, or 5078 Water Tower - these are various combinations of the refinery pieces. Vollmer still produce a kit using the same tanks (No.5525) but the circular walkways have been re-tooled (instead of full discs they are now in segments, but as I say, the tanks are the same).

The kibri kit you'd need (used in TB2's hangar for instance) is No.9904 Large Storage Tank, but that has been discontinued for many years. Kibri still make fuel storage tanks, but they're completely different kits.

Hope that's of some help!

Ah, forgot to mention, the Vollmer 45525 kit you've found IS the up-to-date version.... I've just checked. The tank pieces, and probably some of the piping, will be correct for Thunderbirds.

Confusingly Kibri 9904 is now a BahnHof Frieberg set. They seem to have reused the numbers...
