Default Scratch-Built RC SKY-1

Hello to all you great British Sci-fi model-masters! I wanted to share my latest RC creation straight from the mind of Mr Meddings the the man who created S.H.A.D.O.W's Sky-1 submersible fighter jet part of Skydiver. I'm dedicating my two hand made Sky-1's in honor of Gerry Anderson and Mr Meddings.

I'm almost ready for the maiden flight.
Here are some pics of the finished birds. . . . This build thread will begin in earnest when these little babies get airborne.

I saw your 6foot-Skydiver build but sadly never saw your Sky-1.

I'm nervous as heck with the turbulence the flat rear of fuselage is going to create in flight.

But the space shuttle seemed to do o.k.

Well it looks light enough to fly. As for the flight performance...I built a foam core version back in the 90s as a straight glider (2 foot wingspan) and it flew straight and level so dont fret too much about the flat back.

Thanks for the reassurance Sir.. She weighs in at 1.2lbs and her 64mm fan puts out around 1.4lbs of thrust.

Trust me Mate once I move that throttle forward she's gonna go somewhere lol

Default Finishing touches. . . .

I've now installed the two Sky-1's nose-gesr retracts & fixed rocket pod wheels.

The maiden flight is the next step.

Default Sky-1 is airborne!

Another great piece of British Sci-fi takes to the air once more!

She flies like an American toaster oven lol. . . She needs a TON of work to stabilize her in flight.

Most likely less scale larger wing.

Great vid!

No so great English accent.
Seriously - superb work, looking forward to more, and how you overcome stability problems so she can take to the air.
Oh and a lovely part of the world, Charleston - was there many years ago.

Cheers Howard! I get my accent by watching Terry Thomas movies lol

I have got to almost redesign the Sky-1 without changing her appearance to much. . . If I'm not careful ... . I'll end up with a Eurofighter typhoon lol

Just seen the video... great work there!
Just a thought on the stability issues you're having; could the rotational torque generated by fan be having an effect to through SKY-1 off balance?
I agree about moving the batteries etc to a lower position too - should help
Any way of using two smaller fans to counteract rotation torque? Maybe one in each wing pod, instead of the fuselage?

Whatever you have to do, I wish you success...
