Hey there klee, I noticed in your latest pics the main engine bells have a set of small circular rings around a central ring. Would these have to be installed inside the AM aluminum bells...?

If you are referring to these pieces, then yes, I think you would have to use them with the aluminum bells.

Here is the engine framework and piping without the tanks or engine bells.

I'm curious how to handle painting of the cages.
Will the inside parts of cages have to be painted before assembly?

That is the way that I am going to do it. Paint the corridor sections, the inside of the cages, then glue the cages in place and then paint the exterior of the cage sections.

My Eagle is on it's feet! Still not glued together yet, just a collection of sub-assemblies held together with rubber bands friction and gravity, the nose is just sitting on a roll of tape and a box of "C" batteries. The engine module is actually self supporting, the fit is so good that the molded in pins are holding it in place. I just had to see it together before I broke it down to start painting.

Really looks like an Eagle 1 should be, this time.

I suppose the "backbone" frame as it is in this kit, can't really agree with the idea to make the pod removable ( without impairing the strength dangerously….) ???

I have just taken possession of mine & plan on including some cabin & pod, underside thrusters & main engines, illumination coupled with a couple of cheap boards from eBay with sound effects\dialogue & triggered by remote control.

Its been subconciously niggling me for years (now that you mention it) that there should be to my mind be some form of running lights, even if only port & starboard, based on my offshore existence many years back probably along the spine & on the underside to illuminate landing sites for on-board cameras.

I can already see the remote control channel\function count climbing exponentially now & possibly some arduino jiggery pokery.

Found a old thread on the subject http://www.eagletransporter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1764&page=1, its given me a few ideas as to where infrastructure exterior lighting could go & illuminate the landing pads at the same time. I'd be inclined to use eBay pre-wired 3mm LED's.

The only exterior lights I remember seeing on the Eagle were mounted to the front landing gear in the episode "Ring Around the Moon".

Initially I'm thinking underside of the pods to illuminate the pads & possibly one front on the front two pods & one on the rear of each pod, representing port & starboard when viewed from below & white ones from the pod wall to illuminate the companionway cage.

That way they are hidden from view.

Ahhh..I see said the blind man...! Well, I could do the white ones, but for "personal" taste, I think I might put the usual port and starboard red/green indicator lights as well. After all, with the amount o haroshi I'm sinking into this kit, I wanna go all out... ;-)...!
I've got a boat load o LED's and flashing kits I've been saving up for the big 1/350 NX-01, and I've extra for sure.

BTW, this is gonna sound REAL silly, but, did the front of the Eagle have a regular "cockpit" with view ports(windows) in the upper half...? Sorry guys, it's been years since I've been around this series, and it's only because of the new BIG scale that I got interested in it again. I suppose I could look at pics, but I'd rather get it from some like minded "99" nerds... ;-)...!

Wasn't used in every episode, but yes it did, I'm looking to get the tone of the cockpits orange ambient lighting seen in Breakaway from the outside as opposed to when seen from the inside, maybe some odd intermittent "white" glow\flash like the monochrome videoscreen's are in use.

It is indeed, a little to the South of Calgary, currently about +1C (feels like -4 or 5).

Now the accent is a rather broad (at times) West Country UK accent, a bit like Capt Jack Sparrow's.

In the UK I use Halfords Appliance Gloss White.

(I prefer the look of an Eagle fresh out of the shipyard.....)
