Default Aluminum Engine bells

Hey chaps, I'm waiting for this set to get shipped and I was just wondering if the shiny "bells" might look a bit more realistic if one was to add a pinch of burnt metal toning to them...? Somehow the bright shiny metal on a kit I saw here SOMEWHERE, agianst the flat paint of the main frame looks off a tad...?

Waddya think..?

I definitely agree that they can look too shiny and probably need dulling down and over spraying the edge of the bell with matt black to give the effect of a well used rocket engine. I recall when SF&FM di their build-up series on the AB 44" Eagle that they did just that with the metal parts.

Cheers

I am with you on that one Laurie, they look too shiney and will need some weathering to add more authenticity. Haven't decided what to use until I see the actual engine bells themselves.

Hey chaps, I was thinking what might be some interesting inspiration would be the "pipes" on a MotoGP race bike, that in a slightly less "high tech" form, I used to race. If you chk out some MotoGP photo sites you will see the nifty blue/orange/gold combo of heat staining at certain parts of said pipes.

Employing some of these colours along with a pinch of dusty grey/black would set off these bells nicely.

Take a look and lemme know what yers think

Mine are on the way, but I am expecting a letter from the courier saying that they have arrived and are held awaiting me paying import tax. It happened with the two eagles I purchased. Mind you , I had expected it to happen and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs didn't disappoint. Nothing escapes their steely gaze...!

Mine arrived today ( customs charges us as well ...).

They look beautiful and (really) shiny, but … do other ones noticed they don't match so well the "real" thing ?

( even the plastic ones in the MPC kit, details looks much more accurately portrayed ).

At this level of price, is it too much demanding to expect some improvement over the kit parts… ?

They will give that "woow" effect on any model, sure, but not entirely convinced it was worth the $$$.

Well, mine showed up today, and I personally think they are FANTASTIC...!! I've made a lot of aluminium parts for R/C buggies and what not, and theses almost look like they've been anodized they are so shiny...! Lovely turnings that with a little heat staining ala MotoGP pipe style, will look just BEAUTY on the Eagle.

They perhaps don't model EXACTLY the kit parts, but they sure add a nice "metallic" touch.

have fun anyway man,

Unc

After receiving these beauties you're maybe in for some extra goodies?

Mike Reader makes the sensors for the commend module in metal as well.
They are superb and very friendly priced, see the image underneath.

You can reach him via: reader@mts.net

Torn on buying guys but the general opinion is go for it. I have 2 due this week hopefully kits that is. Where did you buy from and cost and did you incur import duties ?. But falling all that on my part. What is the best choice of good old paints ?.

My engine bells came from Culttvman Hobby shop.

Fast delivery and the price was very good. The CM sensors are form Mike Reader a member of the Space 1999 Ships and Props Facebook page. Also he's involved in member kits and props.

Although the address is right I expect Mike to reply soon. Mike was injured earlier this month this could be reason for his delay.
