Default Dinky Scaled Laboratory Pod now on Shapeways

Now available on Shapeways: Dinky scaled Laboratory pod.

One solid piece. Note: This does not include the booster pack on top. I haven't yet made that. That's next.

Dinky Scaled Laboratory Pod - Shapeways

These are some pics of my home printed version. This version is printed in multiple pieces in two colors on my home 3D printer.

The Shapeways version is solid, one piece, and looks more like this (This is a Shapeways generated render of the model)

Thanks, Steve.

OH! I just noticed as I was ordering a copy for myself from Shapeways that on the ordering page is a SPEED setting that defaults to fast manufacturing. If you choose SLOWER, it gives you a discount! (Instead of charging extra for the speed, they charge you LESS for slower ship.

That may take the sting off for some people who think Shapeways is pricey. (It is. But it can be less pricey and I just now noticed that.)

This is a fairly recent change they made, and some may not be aware of it!

Default The Result

Here is my home print of the Booster Pack which slots on top of the spinal superstructure of a Dinky Eagle:

I printed it in 21 parts. (Yes, I know!)

But it's done that way for better printing, and while assembly at this scale is a bit harder, the visual result is nicer than if I printed it in fewer parts.

It snaps to the spinal horizontal struts, and there is a space to let the grip trigger fit in, so it doesn't get in the way. (The one drawback is you can't operate the trigger when the booster is on.)

(On most monitors, these pictures are far larger than real life and the detail looks pretty good on the real Dinky. Close-ups of tiny models don't always do them justice.)

When I saw a mask being 3D printed in "Mission Impossible" I thought it was pure sci-fi but amazingly this is now a reality within reach of the consumer. The possibilities for modelling are promising, and a huge boon to niche modellers like us who can't always find kits of the subjects we want.

Default Finally! I made the Booster available on Shapeways

I did the work necessary to get the Booster Pack ready for a solid print at Shapeways.

It's very nice. The fit is great. You can lift an Eagle while holding the booster. But it comes off easily too.
