Default Konami UFO Ultimate Model #1

Hobbylink Japan are now listing the Konami UFO Ultimate Model kit which was to include the SHADO Mobile Transporter amongst other nice representations of various SHADO vehicles as discontinued. Looks like it has be pulled by Konami which is a real shame. It was due to be released this month.

HLJ have relisted it with a green code, indicating a pending 'restock' item for February... Make of that what you will.... They do have an image of the box packaging now, so it has at least hit the distributor level of marketing.
Cheers, GW - who's anxiously awaiting a 'shipping soon' notification for this set

HLJ have listed this item as coming soon ,if it isn't available i have seen lots of ebay dealers selling these in advance of their release date.lots of refunds to be made if they aren't released.

Interesting, 1st, issue Ellis on a blister card. This set is an 11 vehicle box set, I wonder if this is a bonus per set or 1 packed in the Master Case. Guess I'll find out when mine arrives.

I think it is pretty cool that 3 interceptors and their caves are in the package but I am bit disapointed that the Mobile transport is so small. I expected it to be at least 1 1/2 that size. But still I am looking forward to buy the whole box.

My Konami Ulitmate UFO set has arrived.

Just like the Ultimate Thuderbirds set, this also has a very nice window display box which is not taped shut so it can be opened with ease. The box measures 23 1/2" x 3 3/4" x 15", & still very pricey to have the items shipped but this time no customs.

Well let's get started on the set:

A shot out of the display box & clear covering off:

The Shadomobile Canadian Timberwoods Diorama:

SHADO Mobile (larger):

SHADO Mobiles x2 for scale:

SHADAIR Heavy Transporter with 4 mini-Shadomobiles:

SHADO Mobiles x3 for scale:

SHADO Moonmobile & 4 Mini-Shadomobiles:

4 Mini-Shadomobiles Close Up:

Lunar Module and Carrier Aircraft:

Sky 1:

SkyDiver:

Moonbase Interceptor (larger):

3 Moonbase Interceptors with Launch Silos:

Moonbase Interceptor with Launch Silos Interior:

Moonbase Interceptor with Launch Silos Interior & Walls:

Moonbase Interceptors for Scale:

The 4 Mini-Shadomobiles are disappointing.

No carded Gay Ellis figure came with the 3 sets I ordered.

If Konami can so consistently get their miniatures that accurate, what does it say about the other manufacturers? Sadly, I feel the Eagle is one of their weakest offerings.

Thanks for the pics, DSJ. The UFO set is great!

I agree with DX that the Eagle is one of Konamis weakest offerings, but we still need at least one of each, dont we?. (I still have no white Transporter and no Hawk). But we should convince Konami to produce more Space 1999 items and a better Eagle. Or how about a Landing platform diorama with an even smaller Eagle?

The tiny Mobiles look terrible to be honest, and I also agree with brinkeguthrie, why could Konami not do the new models seperately as well as in a large box set.

The set idea is brillant, particulary as the cost was extremely competitive against buying the models indivdually -- I just wish the models were a little larger.

do i understand right, the site says shipping will be calculated after shipping. but the ad says 5000-5400 yen..which i think translated to 43-46 USD. is that right?

Put the cursor on the words "Other Currencies", it will drop a window down with shipping rates.

Well, mine just arrived today (pre-ordered last year - destination: Canada) with another $26.00 worth of import tax added on before I could get it in the door.
While I respect the enthusiastic responses above - I have to admit that I'm bitterly disappointed when you factor in the price and repetativeness. Konami's pre-release photos were also somewhat deceptive in terms of scale: The Moon Mobile is far smaller than I interpreted it. - I was hoping for a scale comparative to the large Interceptor or Sky 1... The box is nice (and HUGE) but the sum total of the contents really let it down.
To be honest, the Moon Mobile and Shadair Transport were the only reasons I jumped in. The repeat vehicles from the individual releases of 2 years ago are just redundancy personified and another unjustified cash grab. Couldn't they have at least changed the markings/ vehicle numbers or added the rotating antenna assembly on the large Mobile to make it a unique version? I also don't have a fondness for their dioramas - and (in my opinion) much of the set is comprised of excessive molded backdrops & bases which, for me will remain undisplayed.
This is the second time Konami's suckered me in with vehicles that turned out to be manufactured the size of a bleedin' cold capsule. (Their previous T'Birds pod vehicle sets were as lame and as microscopic as this one)- I'm done. They've pretty much lost me as a customer after this. Sorry chaps, but I respectfully give it a thumbs down.

will pass on this. this review, plus the fact it's 46 dollars shipping. the set costs 81 on HLJ...and then 50% more just to ship.
