Default 'Space Precinct' Cruiser project-resurrected!

Hi fellas, well hot on the heels of my 'IS' glider build (still not finished) I was rumaging around my garage the other day and came across a VERY old project that I never finished-(and so say us all!) Namely, a old Vivid Imaginations toy cruiser from Space Precinct, which I started to try and accurize about 15 years ago! My,my, how time flies! Well on close inspection it looks like it would be easier to build from scratch than accurize! But I started this when I had very little modelling experience, so it would be nice to finish and as I just lost my job, it's a cheap way to pass the time till I pick up another contract (HOPEFULLY). Anyway there's loads to do, like rub down all the filler I dawbed on it all those years ago! I did seal the doors and windows back then and I've given it a quick blast of primer to help with the blemish spotting! The engine pods detail was started back then and although not 100% happy with it today, I think I can add to it etc. Anyway here's some pics on progress.
Cheers,
Wayne

Well, it is not that bad..
I am also considering to accurize my Police Cruiser. On the thread: http://www.eagletransporter.com/foru...ad.php?t=10134 you planned to add some lighting. Are you still going this way?

Oh yeah, forgot about that thread Err, well I'm not sure now, as the body is already sealed up now, it would be a shame to break into it. If on the other hand, I can find some slim line electronics (like the LED stickers you see nowadays) I might light her up! Wish I'd bought one of those little fire engines with the identical 'cruiser' sirens now, wouldn't know where to look these days. I think I'll get this finished and then build a more accurate version on the next one (I have several). I have already already built the Space Precinct ambulance in the same scale.

If you knew at least how those fire engines looked like or who produced them, we could probably find them through ebay...

The ambulance looks great, where did you get the reference from? I guess it is made out of kit parts?

The ambulance is made from the same vintage toy that the original props were made from-its actually a fire engine, with lots of kit bashed parts as well as a scratch built back end, roof, legs etc.. This too is not quite finished, it needs accurate red crosses on the sides, more paint detailing around the window area and blue or red (I can't remember which) lights on top-the only reference pics I had (apart from watchin the show) are a couple of B&W ones from years ago, there were at least 2 different designs, so I tried to capture the generic feeling of the models. As for lighting my cruiser, you must have persuaded me as I've just bought 2 flashing LED's off ebay!

Cool!

Probably some reference can be found in some of the old SF&F magazines. But you probably know that...

Looking forward to some new pics.

P.S. You can't remember the fire engines, can you?

Are these photos of any use?

http://s42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...rogress/STUFF/

Both models were made by Steve Howarth who worked on Space Precinct. The story behind the Cruiser is that after Steve made the model it was decided that it was too small, and so a 15" version was made.

Both models are for sale.

Cruiser = £ 300.00
Lifter = £ 250.00

If you mean the fire engines the props are made from, there playmobil engines. Been cracking on with engine detail today and colour tests, not sure I've got the right blue-ford olympic blue, but it's close!

I've found the original tins of paint.

Lada Adriatic Blue is the colour.

I'll take a photo of the tin at the weekend.

I have something like eight of the Vivid Imaginations toy Cruisers from Space Precinct sat in my loft, most are fully intact or just have a landing leg missing etc, just like Blue Moon I was intending to accurize one or more of them. Unfortunately I never got around to actually starting one, unlike Blue Moon who never completed his.

Really need to look at this again.....

Managed to get a can of 'Lada Adriatic' yesterday, so when I get to painting the cruiser, at least she'll be the right colour!

Well at least that is one question that I do not now need to ask.

Bit more progress, as the weather has abaited. Been testing the 'Lada blue' its coming together, I must say, I can't get over how deeper it looks than the unaltered toy-optical illusion I know, no detail to break up the lines yet
