Default 2001 Discovery Arrives

The Timeslip 2001 Discovery arrived today and it is totally amazing!!! Not what we science fiction modellers are used to from resin kits at all. It really is an awsome kit.

And even more amazing it took just 4 days to get to me from the US via FedEx and NO Customs charges either. As you can imagine I'm quite pleased about that. See what can happen when ParcelFarce aren't involved!!!!

It's actually not that large (or heavy) a box. Only 12" x 10" x 15", so perhaps it slipped under their radar. They obviously can't check everything.

I'll get some photos of the parts at the weekend.

Keith,

I'm really looking forward to the pics!

On the subject of customs fees - you might recieve a letter and a bill to pay from FedEx, as sometimes they pay the fees for you to speed up the delivery. That's happened to me in the past.

If you don't - then all the better!

Howard.

I look forward to see your model later. Besides Eagles (obviously) the Discovery is one of my absolute favourite ships.

"This is FED EX. Please remain where you are. Agents are on the way to collect fees you failed to pay! Cooperate, and you can keep the item! Thank you!"

You can run, but you cannot hide. Now Fun Pod will have to do little FED EX agents with keys in their ears chasing saturnapollo down the corridors

Can't wait for the pics.

Reference the charges (FedEx), I have to say, I've got the T-shirt on this one.
I too thought I had got away with it but a letter came about ten or so days later.

But live in hope as they say!

Is this a Customs charge or just for FedEx doing their job?

OK, here are some photos of the major parts. The CM is in two halves, but the rear engine section is hollow cast single piece.

The only thing not supplied is a 1/4 inch (6mm) diameter steel rod for the spine, but I picked that up for a couple of at the local model shop (Wonderland) today.

I'm afraid Discovery is third on the list of models to make. First I think will be the Moonbus, then I have to update my ISS model before NASA starts sending up even more stuff!

"That's a big ship." Having just watched the two films a couple of times, it is amazing how such a simple ship can grab you. It is a kick-arse design. The only question is whether you want it to look like its just arrived at Jupiter or is covered with 9 years of red/orange deposits. Hurry up and finish the other stuff so we can see the pictures of the build.

Yes it is the 2001 version. The 2010 one had different windows and neck collar for a start. Even if they were identical must admit painting it ochre never entered my mind !

Well, at great personal risk to my health (and marriage) I just ordered one of these from George...

Hopefully mine will be on its way across the Atlantic before too long...

Chris

You won't regret it (buying it I mean)!!!

I did have my doubts as you know about shelling out so much for a kit, but when you see it in the flesh (er, resin), you'll realise you made the right decision.

Now he's in the middle of producing three of the orbiting bombs, so I suspect more outlay will be required. Depends on the size right enough. No space for any more 4 footers!
