Default Remakes. Sci-Fi movies.

I'm still hoping for a good remake of "Forbidden Planet" " Robinson Crusoe on Mars" ( Enemy Mine was close) or "This Island Earth".
I always liked "Target Earth", "Kronos" (the 1950's one with the giant robot), "GOG", "Earth vs the Flying Saucers". What was the one with John Carradine were they stopped time on Mars?? "Wizard of Mars" ?? I liked that one.

Forbidden Planet, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, This Island Earth, and Earth vs the Flying Saucers are all great movies and do not need to be remade. This remake madness must stop.

How about 'Plan 9 from outer space' it's an absolute classic! It deserves to be remade into a proper comedy, sorry, I mean Sci-Fi blockbuster (as long as they don't tamper with that classic script). "Future events such as these will affect you in the future." Brilliant stuff absolutely brilliant!

What about attack of the killer tomatoes.... oh.. that has been redone, but I bet with lots of cgi it could be done way better. "Vegetable revenge... The red stuff you see isn't just tomato juice" Or "just when you thought it was safe to go back to the vegetable patch."
"In the vege patch no one can hear you scream"

Re: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes... you just can't top the real helicopter crash landing that occurred with cameras rolling, so they incorporated it into the script! (I love that film... it's soooo dumb, but there are actually tiny parts of it that are comic genius, better than some high-end, big-budget, superstar stuff.)

Oh, I hadn't heard that the pilot had died. My misconception all these years was that he hadn't.
Perhaps they thought it was some sort of tribute?

Has no one heard anything about the up-coming remake of "Day the Earth Stood Still" with Keannu Reeves as Klaatu ? This could go either way , I'm no fan of Keannu , but his ( cough !) "distinctive" acting style could be the perfect fit for the otherworldly character of Klaatu . Or it could just be another disaster !

Got to agree - what's the point.
The films they're remaking are popular, what they come up with is nothing like, or so below par, the original.
So why do it?
Is it just a cheap marketing angle?
Can anyone name a remake that stands up to the original.
Day The Earth Stood Still with Keanu... dear oh dear.
But even worse - remaking Escape From New York. The whole fun of that film is that its an early 80's product: the groovy Carpenter soundtrack, the whacking great LED wristwatch and other technologies, Donald Pleasence, Kurt on top form, Issac Hayes, Harry Dean et al.
Leave it alone. Give it a re-release but PLEASE leave it alone.

Yes, were having a groan about it earlier. Never go back!

Not all remakes are bad: I'll take the 1982 remake of 'The Thing' over the original any day, and the 1978 version of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' was pretty good, IMHO.

Personally I would have cast Keannu Reeves as Gort.

Aren't they trying a Death Race 2000 remake too?

I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of Logan's Run, just keep it true to the book. I think I could stomach a Robinson Crusoe on Mars and Tron remake too.

I've heard that rumour, too - supposedly Quentin Tarantino is involved.

This surely is a shot for the sci-fi babe thread. And I still remember her from "Walkabout"

Try "Ed Wood".

Clash of the Titans was one of the worst films I've ever seen. Only the Ray Harryhausen SFX are worth watching, but even they aren't enough to hold my attention, especially whenever that damned mechanical owl--Owl-too-Deetoo I called it--appears. A remake of that film might not be so bad.

But here's a better idea: why not make a series of movies based upon Greek legends? Greek Mythology 101, so to speak. Seriously, this might be a cool idea. (And for the not-so-serious: If you prefer Roman mythology, there could be a dubbed version that switches the Greek names to Roman. )
