Default The Slough industrial estate in the 1960s

hi guys, Im a member of a popular and excellent railway modelling forum, where someone recentley has posted pictures of the slough Industrial estates old railway system, may be of some interest as this was what was happening outside and around the corner of the ap film studio as Thunderbirds, UFO etc was being filmed, it gives an Idea what the area was like at the time, it certainly wasnt futuristic!

This is one of Alan Shubrook's pics, so I take it you haven't got his book JD ?

Some great pictures on that Slough railway thread, but the information about the studio buildings isn't quite correct - The original AP Slough studios were on Ipswich Road, occupied from 1959 - 63, while the later AP/Century 21 studios were on Stirling Road. All these buildings are still standing at present. The only ex AP/C21 building on the estate that has been redeveloped is the art department building that used to be on Edinburgh Avenue.

thats was my mistake that, I posted the reply with the studio pic.

glad to be corrected and that its still standing, as I say, would love to go see it sometime, I could even make the excuse and build a replica of it as a building for a model railway layout

does anyone have any up to date pics at all?

cheers

The building was occupied by a company called Sovrin Plastics - used to be a supplier to my company which I didn't realise at the time used to be the Century 21 building (when I had the opportunity to visit them!)

Still is at present - but you never know when part of the estate is going to be redeveloped. Quite a few original buildings on Ipswich Road - though not the AP site - are disappearing at the moment.

Same here, I'm afraid.

When I saw the title of this thread, for some reason the first thing I thought of was 'The Office'.

think its best to post them here with the link being a bit tempremental

the guy who posted them, said they where around 1966-68

this one is my favourite, for the tank engine, the triumph herald and a35 under the cooling tower which is just a stones through away from the studio

Very interesting, thanks for posting 'em here. That last one sums up Britain in the '60s, doesn't it? The steam engine (and is that a gasometer?) next to the Atomic Age cooling tower and car with tailfins.

in the first episode of the secret service, on the DVD commentary Gerry Anderson points out that this is the studios and the close up of the window shot was actually his office

That was the front of one of the Effects stages, In the Block on the right, that housed the puppet unit and rushes theatre in it.
