Default Checkered vinyl tape help

I would have thought this would have been an easy thing to get hold of,

Im looking for checkered or chequered, however you wanna spell it

red/black and also yellow/black tape, I think its around 15-16mm thick

I have been searching the net for the last few days and emailed a couple of suppliers I found, no reply just yet but wondering if anyone else knows of somewhere I could obtain this?

I imagine that these colours available and it wasnt just white and black tape painted, but open to any suggestions and debate

cheers guys

I remember stuff like that on sale years ago at Halford's store (motor stuff for those not in UK) I think it was at the BMX section. try in there is you can.

cheers guys,

Knight thanks for searching, that is one of the places ive emailed, hopefully they might know where I can get red and black, although I dont think yellow and black should be a problem

you see yellow and black around the launch bases of Thunderbird 3
and white and black in Thunderbird 1 hangar

Im just wondering if Ive got the size right?

thought Id do a few screengrabs of where they used it

you can definatley tell its vinyl tape as it shines under the light,

theres a shot in several books of Mike Trim working on the D103 airliner model, applying tape to it, Blue for the stripes, on the desk with him is a roll of the chequered white and black and theres lots of different colours behind him on the shelves

red and black on the Crablogger

Yellow and black on TB3's bases and also outside the hangar of the RTL2 transporter

and white and black on TB1's hangar

It used to be sold as rally tape in car spares shops. You couldn't go anywhere without seeing a mini striped up. From memory I think you want the one that's 3/4" wide with 3/8th squares.

thanks DX-SFX, thats great info,

I did get a reply from the place I emailed to try another place, will do that.

the RTL2 was in "The cham cham" episode Tony, always thought that it was a nice looking aircraft that would actually fly in real life

Don't want to hijack the thread but are those lights on the Crablogger slide viewers?

Certainly looks a lot like the little handheld Hama slide viewers.

Cheers

The RTL2 Transporter...

Just a guess but it's fuselage appears to be made from the inverted sides of the Airfix (or old Aurora) Orion Clipper kit from 2001....?

The shapes look similar, but the RTL2 model would have been built in early 1966, sometime before the Orion Clipper was probably even designed. So maybe it influenced the clipper !

Nice thought but the RTL2 studio model is about four times the size. Besides, 2001 wasn't released until 1968. The Orion kit was released in 1969.

the black and white still seems popular and available, so you shouldnt have a problem there

Im just struggling like hell to get the other colours in the right size

just thought i would chip in on the tape front. when i was making my sun probe models the intention was to offer a kit and i had some tape made up for the base of the sun probe rocket. i used my sign makers again, gave them some dimensions and hey presto.
cheers Paul
