Default The Trigan Empire

*
Did anyone have this book as a kid? (do you still have it?)

I remember it being a world away from 1999/Anderson stuff in terms of hardware but the stories were engrossing.

Must get me the books again someday...

Yes, however I remember having it in a weekly comic format before the book version, must be my age then.

I've got it stashed away somewhere in my loft

This together with the series of four or so books on sci-fi art called (I think) Spaceships and Spacewreck etc...many paintings by Chris Foss and other artists - published by Hamlyn as I remember.

Used to love this lot in my teenage years...must dig them out some time.

I have a Trigan Empire book I got on clearance many years ago. It's an American release (Chartwell Books imprint) collecting the first seven major storylines in one volume.

The other books w8cmp mentioned are part of the Terran Trade Authority Handbooks, of which there were four volumes: Spacecraft 2000-2100 AD, Great Space Battles, Spacewreck, and the last volume Starliners.
There are a couple websites devoted to the TTA books. One of them has computer graphic representations of the artwork from the books, which is neat because the artwork looks more consistent that way. Here's the link.

On that particular site is a ship that looks remarkably Space: 1999-influenced.

Gee, that support truss looks familiar...
The other site makes up its own art based on the books, and fills in some of the gaps in the original book series. Great stuff. http://www.g7sta.demon.co.uk/dwsteve5.html

By the way, I always liked those old TTA books, and still have them.

All of the Trigan Empire stories made by Don Lawrence have been republished in the Netherlands (in Dutch) a couple of years ago. As far as I know they are being republished in English in the coming years.

If you like the work of Don Lawrence (and his spaceships) you should read his Storm-stories too. After being fed up with the Trigan Empire he worked on those wonderful Storm-stories.

I'm the proud owner of a couple of his original Storm-artwork. They are on the wall of my livingroom, next to the PE 23' Eagle ...

Hey, everyone, I realized I hijacked this thread with the TTA stuff, so I copied the relevant posts to their own topic board. Sorry about the confusion! (Moderator, feel free to delete the stuff from this board if necessary.)
