Default "2055: VOYAGE TO MARS" Coming to Youtube on Monday 7th July

TO MARS IN MINIATURE...

“2055: Voyage to Mars” takes us on a journey of discovery, as Nasa launch their first manned mission to Mars.
Inspired by the late master of model special effects, Derek Meddings, David Ross brings the special effects principles which saw their hey-day in the sixties and seventies back to life with everyday household objects.

That's an impressively professional looking design - which would also make a great DVD cover. Look forward to seeing the movie !

Very clever teaser poster, David: I really appreciate the dual colour reflections reflecting a relationship between the lower blue Earth and the upper (thus, skyward) red Mars... very nicely done. As a past SFX experimenter, I too very much look forward to your show reel

I think it's faked... the scale of those waves is wrong!

Seriously, though, nice looking stuff! I didn't catch the blue & red reflections on the poster's capsule for what they were til Fun Pod pointed them out. Not only does the image 'look pretty,' it has symbolic importance. Top marks!

This is going to be great , David - I feel it in my waters.

I'm thinking 'Capricorn 1' without having to shoot any astronauts

Thanks guys! I really hope you enjoy the finished film. It is quite rough round the edges in places though, since its home made and was also put together in a very tight schedule - my lecturers didn't think I' be able to do it in the time. Even with the imperfections I think its quite a good tribute to model effects from the Century 21/ space odyssey period.

I presented it to my lecturers and college mates the other day (my legs were like jelly) and it got a good reception. One lecturer in particular seemed very impressed, and was asking questions about how I did certain things. He asked how I did the rocket effects and then went on say...
"A while ago I used to use Jet...Jete..."
"Ah Jetex" I said
"Yes" he said "they used to blow up at times"
I told him that I'd looked for Jetex but couldnt find them so had to think of something else. I wonder how he knew about Jetex? Thought that was quite interesting. He also made a comment "what Gerry Anderson could've done with a steamer, eh?"

Next stop is our end of year show, where my film will be shown on a big screen in the lecture theatre to lots of strangers. I'll be *really* nervous for that one!

Heres my DVD cover at the moment, might change it a bit...

Super-picky nitpick, here, but don't forget to spell NASA in all-caps (as opposed to Nasa), since it's an acronym. I noticed it on the back cover of the dvd case.

I can't wait to see this film, and though I understand your nervousness, I think enough people will be impressed with your effort that you needn't worry. Best wishes all the same.
