Default Ok, let's have it out, once and for all.......

Should there be a follow-up/remake/conclusion/continuation of Space 1999??

Could Space 2099 really fly?

Vote now:

1) Yes

2) No

3) Yes, but only with the oversight of TRUE Space 1999 fans, and the blessing of Gerry Anderson

4) Make a "NEW" one if you must, but WITHOUT any links/references to the original

(I wanted to make this an actual poll, but can't figure out how to do it. If any moderaters are present, I would appreciate a little help! Thanks)

No. I would let things stand as they are. Any re-imaging done (a la the new BSG) would undoubtedly change the show beyond any recognizable form of the show we know and love. Another show placed in the same 'reality' without the same characters might be potential, but otherwise I am simply not interested.

Default oooopppppsssss.........

almost forgot.

I'm in favor of a new series. With oversight, plenty of input from fans of the original Space 1999, and of course, the blessing of Gerry Anderson.

Not to mention, the emminent input of "Sir" Martin Willey!

No, not really. As an example I would rather no sequels (books or film) had been made to 2001. Just let the book/film stand on its own. Any sequel tends to dilute the impact of the original.

There will never be shows like we got in the seventies. The budgets just aren't there like they used to be. There are too many channels now competing for the same amount of advertising revenue that was previously split between just a few which means each channel has less money to spend than it used to.

Same Eagles -- new pods -- I'd watch!

A bit more seriously, I think I'd just as soon let the old girl rest in peace. I like the new Battlestar Galactica but, let's face it, it isn't really the Battlestar Galactica we grew up with. It is a distant cousin at best. I shudder to think what a re-imagined Space: 1999 (certainly couldn't use THAT name again) would look like.

UFO would work - S99 wouldn't.

I'd love to see the former but not the latter.

I was tempted to go for option '3', but for similar reasons to others here I have to say '2'. Shame.

It would be nice if they could do it right but I think we all know there is no chance of that happening. So I guess I would prefer they leave it alone.

There's no way a remake would or could change the original. The original doesn't just vanish, when a remake is done...Battlestar Galactica is a good example of this, they both still exist and they both are what they are (whether they are thought of as good or bad is up to the viewer). It's the same with War of the Worlds, Lost in Space, The Andromeda Strain or any other fictional creation. Space:1999 is no exception...It could be redone for good or ill.

I really don't see why one can/could/should be done and not the other.

I would love to see new Space 1999 episodes - 9 years+ after Breakaway.

Why not, it doesn't change anything on the first two seasons.

I'm in the process of writing a follow-up. Obviously I'll post it here when it's completed.

I'm surprised that Hollywood hasn't considered this - maybe they have - but its not as big (popular) as some older series. With Hollywood so berefit of ideas it may happen soon. I mean comon the Smurf movie - now thats desperation!

yeah yeah yeah.
I'm sure they said the same thing about bringing back Doctor Who. And look, all of a sudden it is now 'cool' and trendy.

They should do a mini series just for some sort of closure on the characters. Sorry, but the 5 minute mini ep didnt do it for me

I don't see why not.

Look at Star Trek and all the follow up versions on TV and on film.

John and Helena could have ended up having kids, so could Paul and Sandra, so could Tony and Maya, for example.

Space 1999 : The Next Generation...

Bring it on !!!

Thanks for all the input everybody. It appears feelings are fairly well split, for and against.

I guess it's yet another indication of the deep effect this show had. The feelings are strong on both sides and I think that's a good thing.
