Default At last I'm building an eagle!

..even though it is a CG one. If only I had the space to build a 22" or a 44"..

Anyway, this is where I'm at. Click for bigger.

The decal is a temp stick-on, I just couldn't resist it. There's still work to do, smoothing off the edges of those panels for one, and altering the head-on profile - the eagle CM isn't a true ellipse - as I'm sure everyone here knows (and as I've learned to my cost). I might leave that until I get the rest built - and totally re-do the CM.

I plan to do some animation with this. I've already done a few bits and pieces with space 1999 stuff, but I can't show it yet. It's to do with this thread.

More soon.

Awesome , I am amazed every time I see CG renderings and wonder about the time effort that goes into such projects. Perhaps we'll see you attempt a 22" or 44" in the near future?

Cheers,
Darren

Senor dishes need more work (says he who doesn't even know how to do such things) but this is going to be a knockout so its worth getting things right as you go.

Are you going to be able to use this in games etc? Love the colours and the Alpha crest

Very nice! And the CM is the most difficult part of a cgi Eagle. Keep up the good work. Mine is not textured yet, but the whole structure is finished.

Looks like someone's CG file needs to be fed into a 3-D printer how about a kit?

Nico, whose sadly not checked in for quite a while, was doing just that.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Transporter - that looks great! Don't those engine bells look fantastic!? I've actually got a pod 50% finished but I can't use it until Eric's video airs (see the link in my first post). Your eagle is a great encouragement for me to finish.

As for inclusion in games - I'd prefer to do a lower rez model with a baked in normal map (for those who know what I'm dribbling on about).

I started with the most difficult bit (the CM) on purpose. I knew that if I got that right, the rest would be a lot easier - and i wouldn't have the looming prospect of having it to do later. I'll probably finish up texturing this before I attempt any more.

Thanks for all the compliments. I made everything after the plans from Daniel Prud'homme and Chris Trice. There is only one thing wrong: I also misinterpreted the rectangles which were ment to be the orange markings on the landing pods. Of course they are not elevated but more or less flat.

There is more (much more) to come. First pod will be a pallette pod... you probably can guess what it is all about...

Default a little progress

With the help of a cage lattice I re-shaped the CM to it's more characteristic shape, losing the regularity in the ellipse. It's a small change - but it was bugging me that it wasn't right:

I also did a little more on the sensor dishes:

I'm in two minds now whether to finish the CM off with textures or continue the build...

BTW for those with an interest, I'm using Blender 2.46.

I'm always in awe of what people can achieve with these rendering programs. Wouldn't know where to start.

Well done to both of you.

It's been pointed out that the CM may now be a little flat (not tall enough) - which I've attended to. I'm using my fantastic eagletransporter.com photoDVD as the only resource at present - but I should have better reference soon. I've now got to decide which Eagle I'm modelling - as the panel detail is of course different on them all, D'oh!
