Default Apollo XI up-and-coming 40th Anniversary - what's happening?

As we're all aware, the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing will soon be upon us.

Are we likely to see any new, decent models of the hardware, or are we going to be subject to the umpteenth re-tread of the same old inaccurate kits?

I'd love to see some larger scale and more accurate kits out there but I'm guessing quite a few people here are looking forward to the old kit getting reissued too.

Wrong thread, but are you sure they landed, or was Ap 12 really the first moon landing with 11 done on TV.... this was the question I was asked yesterday by one of my work colleagues...

I wonder how one does hide a rocket in orbit from the Russians?

I'd love to see some new kits to celebrate the event, as well as some re-issues for us to be able to steal kit parts from.

Obviously, the Russians were in on the plot.

Siriusly, for the 40th Anniversary, we ought to have A FRICKIN MOONBASE up there, kind of like one we saw in a certain TV show! Oh, what was it called..........

I agree. 2009 is Breakaway +10 and still no moonbase. NASA says they hope to have a lunar colony up and running by 2024. I hope it happens. It would be awesome. Yes,that show you're talking about seems vaguely familiar and I saw it as a child. I wish I could remember the exact title.

I tell you...Capricorn One wasn't just a movie, it was a visionary documentary. Maybe this is where the Loose Change guys got the idea.

Here in the USA the 1/48 Monogram LM/First Lunar Landing diorama kit and the 1/32 Monogram CSM are available - not issued by Revell/Monogram but a by a company called Stevens International. Think they did a run of the 1/96th Revell Saturn V as well if memory serves.

I haven't heard of any company planning to release any new styrene models using new tooling, but the main Hobby Show here in the USA is later this month and if Revell/Monogram or any other company had something in the works they would preview it there.

I predict that the Revell Apollo Astronaut on the Moon kit will probably be re-popped.

There was some Internet buzz about a 1/32 LM multi media kit some time ago, haven't
heard anything for a while.

Perhaps Airfix will re-release their Saturn V model. It was meant to be fairly good.

Airfix are due to re-release the Saturn V, Saturn 1B and LM kits next year. Don't know about the Vostok one though.

Good news or bad, depends on your point of view.

The IHobby Show in Chicago was last week, Revell will be re-releasing the 1/48th scale LM
diarama kit, the 1/32nd CSM and the 1/144th Apollo/Saturn V.

No new kits or new tooling, but if you want to scratchbuild a Centuri SpaceDock, classic
Battlestar Galactica or X-Wing Fighter the cost just came down.

The buzz is still happening and I'm still waiting - looks like late 2009 - I can see a big price ticket on this - just hope the Aussie dollar recovers by then;

I tell ya I wouldn't mind the CM and LEM filming models from "From the earth to the moon" Delicious. Even the old Airfix kit I used to have would be a blast.

Would it be crude to say that I just intend to throw a big party?

Good for you. I wish that the big day was at least on calendars in this country! It really deserved national Holiday status, would be a heck of a way to inspire the young!

I think I've posted this here before, but these guys sell lots of very nice multi-media space capsules, rockets, and detail parts:

http://www.realspacemodels.com/html/catalog.html

My dad has their 1/144 N-1 and Soyuz launch vehicles and I have one of their 1/48 scale Apollo CSM kits. They are high-quality kits, obviously crafted with care. The Apollo CSM is the Block II version, not the Block I version of the old Revell kit.

And this guy sells some other interesting "real space" kits, though I have never purchased from him:

http://mek.kosmo.cz/newware/

I do know of at least one supplier who carries several of his kits, though.
