Just got back home from the exhibition.

I'd never been before, so wasn't sure what to expect. Nevertheless, I had a good time. Managed to find a Halcyon Narcissus kit at £24.95 (not from the Comet stand) and was impressed by the small and understated Mat Irvine stand (right next door to Comet).

Was tickled by the group that had many variations on the Wallace and Gromit Anti-Pesto van. Including an R2-D2 with Gromit inside and "Quantum of Wallace" with the man himself in black tuxedo with a silenced pistol. Very well executed.

There also seemed to be a number of Dalek buble bath containers re-worked into new variations - a white one, a desert version and a WW2 German.

The competition area didn't seem to have many SF entries, but then I did go past it early on.

I took some photos, but need to get them off my camera first.

Phil.

Sorry guys, wrestling with a new camera. Have got one picture off - K9 - but the rest seem garbled. Not sure if there's a problem with the card, camera or me! Believe me I've tried everything and I'm gutted.

Will start again with a clear mind tomorrow.

Phil.

Well, I've lost a few, but here's what I've managed to extract.
I'm sure others will have better shots...

Thanks for the pictures Phil.

That Liberator looks in a bit of a sorry state doesn't it?

Indeed it does. DX-SFX has (I think) explained the story behind that before, but I forget the detail. Mat (the guy in the orange flame shirt) was talking about it while I was taking the pictures and he seemed quite relaxed about the fact that it was in a tatty state. He seemed quite pleased that it had served its purpose on B7 and should not be worshipped as some work of art.

I wish I'd had the courage to talk to him, but I just stood and listened to an artist talk enthusiastically about his work...

His was the stand I kept coming back to.

I've lost ALL the competition entries and the bubble-bath Dalek shots. I know the latter sound lame but I thought they were really well executed.

I wanted to ask the people at the Airfix stand when the Dalek Encounter kit would be out, but couldn't get near them! Hobby Link Japan were also there.

Overall, the exhibition was 95% non SF with exhibitors from Belgium, Australia, Russia and Germany to name but a few outside the UK. Despite not being interested in tanks, planes, ships and the like, I still enjoyed it. Not sure I would go again but it was well worth going to see what it was like.

Phil.

Phil,
Do you have any data recovery software?

I recently had a problem with the card in my camera but I found a freeware program on the internet and recovered them all!

I tried three different programmes actually, I can't remember which one worked best. Just google for "jpeg recovery freeware". Best to pick one from one of the reputable sites - Twocows, CNet etc.
It's worth a try.

If you ever meet Mat Irvine, don't clam up. Say hello as the guy is one of the classiest class acts out there. I first met him in person in 2003 just after Telford when I was on vacation in the UK (after we corresponded via the Yahoo Space Modelers email group) and we've been good friends ever since.

Too bad I wasn't able to make the trip over this year as it looks like it was a good show. The Wallace and Grommit display looks to be MUCH bigger then the first one I saw in 2004. After seeing Grommit in an R2, I wonder if somebody will do him in a Dalek when the Airfix kit comes out? Or how about Wallace as Davros (they have the same hairline afterall)?

Did anybody else get anything ? I'd certainly like to see the Sci fi competition models if possible. The you tube clips made it look very, very busy.
