The Kibri top is 73.2mm diameter, and the Faller roof is 75mm across. The Faller one is a simple cone rather than a dome shape. Not sure if the Kibri tank is still available or not. They do still produce tanks, but I think they've been upgraded from this early model...... Rather than duplicate these pics on the Satelite thread I thought I'd take some shots of all the various tanks together to give a better idea of how they look. Keith |

here it is with some bits layed out, airfix srn1, the wings that hold them Im pretty sure now are from the 1/48 f100 supersabre by Lindberg. got a oval ripmax window for the right hand side, need to get a p130 hatch cover for the left side. there is a bomb on the side, which I think is a b58 hustler, bout 120mm but I dont think its any I have, monogram, revell etc... ![]() ![]() Mike |

Really enjoying watching this thread develop - great research!
Amazing that the same toy was still to be found after so many years. Hope you can add an inventory of parts Always liked that Stingray sub |

gonna be fun painting it theres some more bits, the piece that covers the axle on the front of the sub is a bomb from the f104, some airfix girder bridge studs. very small dome pieces stuck on the front of the sub I think are from the revell mercury gemini kit. black parts on rear are ripmax vents. going by Keiths dimensions for the conning tower it could be one of those kits, but I think it may be something slightly smaller. reason it has a hole in the rear of the car/front of the sub which they didnt even fill in visible when its the sub in stingray, is that it had string on that axle so it can be pulled along Mike Last edited by Mike Delamar; 26-11-2010 at 01:46 PM. |

Couple of questions Mike. There is no doubt this is the correct car they used but do you think it's possible they made a mold of it to use on the actual model. I'm looking at the 2 ridges at the front of the sub(back of the car) and they look very sharp as if they have been emphasized but on your photo of the car the lines appear very soft and shallow. The holes left by removing the axle also appear very sharp but I suppose they could have put tubing through the old holes. On the back of the conning tower do you think the ridged wraparound part is from a dockside crane roof? It's more curved than the roof but the ridges look the same. Nice spot on the srn part on the nose.
Looking forward to the build. |

I really dont think they would have moulded it.
the holes where the axles where on mine are a little worn due to it being played with so will need a bit of restoration around them. regards the lines on the nose, its more than likely my photos, it looks different in real life. Mike |

I dont think its the roof from the crane as thats a tough thick part to curve. it may be something like the ribbed tube round thunderbird 5. theres a piece on the roof with a flat head screw in it which is puzzling me too. Mike |

just realised an easy way to gauge the diameter of the conning tower dome roof is the unpainted grey airfix bridge piece on the roof, visible when it zooms in, is the same length.
not sure if its the long or short piece you get in the kit but should give a good way of gauging (edit) its the short piece which is 56mm long. any suggestions for the bomb piece with "234" on it? cheers Mike Last edited by Mike Delamar; 26-11-2010 at 11:14 PM. |

the conning tower itself is pretty much the same dimensions as an ordinary cardboard toilet roll, we know they used those in Stingray on models so you never know???? although id doubt theyd use it on something they knew would be getting wet.

It might be a good idea Mike to fill the car body with builders foam like a vinyl kit. I don't know what you could use to paint it but I would make sure that you sort this out before you start sticking stuff to it. I would also be careful with what glue you use, I imagine plastic weld would eat right through it.
Good Luck Mike.... P.S. Could the ribbed part on the conning tower be a bag tie? Last edited by healvis; 27-11-2010 at 12:12 PM. |

for glue I imagine they would have used chloroform or evo stick on it.
dont really want to inject stuff into it or mould it, just have to be carefull handling it when finished. ive also noticed in stingray, right through the nose they put a thin piece of wire, from one side to the other, pokes out about 5mm each side. , I imagine thats where the wires where anchored to. another photo with some bits on it, maybe the reason the front bit they wrapped around was secured by pins and over the hump was because it was so tricky to glue and why the srn1 engine and wing where secured to a base plate.
