Well its here,am i happy with it? not sure, from an arms length, its good, but close-up it looks like it was painted in a rush, the box lid has a large sticker on its saying it has been hand painted by Martin Bower, and the issue number.
inside is just the same as the orange hawk.

the hand painting close up is rough in places, and the hawk has been dirtyed down with an airbrush, and as mentioned before the orange paint is showing through
its not white, its more a grey colour.

this would look ok on film, but as a collectors model,it just dont cut it.

is it worth the money? if i had seen it before hand in the flesh,NO

as there are only 30,i think this is more an investment, due to the original modelmaker putting his name to it,but dont rush for this one, unless the price tag doesnt matter to you.

will i sell it in the future? YES unless it grows on me some more.

I am really surprised Martin Bower is putting his name to this, due to the poor finish

Nice model - the original Hawks had a worse finish!

I would have expected better Donald on such a small run of these. I could have understood the paintwork being a little shoddy on the orange version seeing as the originals were more of an orange wash than a solid colour but
to be honest it just seems a shame that more care and love was not put into it. Am I also correct in saying that these Hawks are a mix of the large and medium size model?

There are many versions of the screen Hawk, however it is generally accepted that the definitive version is the largest 'Hero' model.

However this version would seem to be a blend of the 'Hero' body and the Airfix CM.

The CM stinks to high heaven, it is nothing like any of the Hawks.

LeeXi does have a very fair point. The paint job is far crisper than any of the available reference material for white Hawks.

The reference material for which is extemely small and such pictures that do exist are somewhat grainy.

To my knowledge there are 4 recorded Hawk versions;

1) Totally white with white solar panels and rounded pylon pods. Less pipes as well.

2) Classic white with black solar panels and square pylon pods. More pipes.

3) Screen version with orange wash and white CM panels.

4) MB repaint with black CM panels

If anyone has any better pics of the white Hawk I would love to see them. But the only ones I could post are the ones that have been posted up here on ETF hundreds of times so I can't see any point in wasting ETF bandwith.

Surely the first version you refer to was the model before completion by MB.

There will be a 'ton' of reference material on the Fandeson convention picture discs !

A MkVII Hawk!
The Pics I'm refering to look like completed models there are 2. You must know them. The one with the can of thinners and the mid sized Hawk in the background and the one with the same model on the white box.

No LM parts on the main engine and no pipes poking out under the side/booster engines, also the pylons have rounded not square pods under them.

I do call it the Mk VII in my mind.

Can't get the damn pics to post. I always thought that it was MBs first version not a WIP.

Definitely work in progress I would say. The LM parts are on the back engine, and the weapons pylons simply don't yet have the rectangular pods added yet. The pipes underneath are simply kit sprues which I assume he's not yet added at this point.

The can is not thinners - it's EMA plastic cement so I assume he's still glueing parts to it.

Here're the pics. Perhaps if you can mark out what you see as missing, we can all get onto the same page.
JD thank you for posting those pics, they are exactly the ones I have spent hours pouring over. The only other pic I have of the White Hawk is the iconic view (reproduced by SAW on his site) which was used by Barratts in the candy cigarette cards as 'The Eagle'. That lead to my fascination as a boy.

w8cmp I totally conceed your point about these pictures being a work in progress, I have now spotted the 'pipes' I thought were missing, but I am struggling to see the LM legs on the main engine.

However I still find it a little strange that MB would have stuck on the pylons with the rounded pod and then completed the painting, including all the pannels, if the intention was to cut it off at a later point, also if he had been doing the pannels why leave off those on the solar array?

As such I like to imagine that this was indeed a Mk VII and MB decided post photo that the square pods and black solar array looked better and changed it.

In the absence of Mk I to VI, I enjoy thinking that this adds to the legend of the Hawk, my all time favourite SF ship.

I'm still not seeing the rounded pods you're referring to on the weapons pylons. The pylons themselves have a flange at the bottom which is what you can see there. The rectangular weapons pods end up stuck to this flange...

Am I missing something ?

I am clearly:

1) Blind

2) Stupid

I just hadn't noticed that the rectangular pods are stuck onto the rounded flange.

Clearly and emphatically done after these pics.

All I can say is thanks JD and w8cmp.

Ahem. For all its faults you have to all agree that that 16/12 have captured the rounded flange that connects to the rectangular weapons pod on the pylon beautifully.

Well I'm in the process of correcting the paint finish on my friends Hawk. Repainting it to more accurately reflect what is seen on screen in "War Games". I have an entire laundry list of things to correct. If I have time, I will post pics of the finished piece.
