Default Secret Army & Kessler

Been watching the showings of the last series of Secret Army and the follow up Kessler. I love Secret Army, as a family we watched it when it first came on tv and I was too young to really understand it.

Pity that the final episode seems never to have been broadcast.

The follow up, Kessler, concentrates on the story of the final days of Ludwig Kessler, who has been living in Germany under a different identity but has now had his real discovered by a war criminal hunter, so he goes on the run while trying to get them off his back.

Nicholas Young from The Tomorrow People is in it, quite a different role than TP leader John. In places it was tense and dramatic but I felt the ending was a little rushed and ultimately feeling a little unsatisfying.

It would have been nice to see a series showing what Kessler did in the immediate aftermath of the withdrawal from Belgium and how he became Manfred Dorf.

Anyone else see or remember Secret Army or Kessler?

I remember watching Kessler on it's first showing, which was very good, but never saw much of Secret Army, though I probably couldn't take it totally seriously now on account of "allo allo",which drew on it for inspiration.

Caught this yesterday (Kessler), very good drama.

I love watching all the documentaries especially those on German WW2 history

All very fascinating stuff.

I remember Secret Army, especially the music and end title sequence showing the various bridges and roads.

If you want another (underrated) series, look at the 70's show Enemy At the Door, released by Network DVD about the German occupation of the Channel Islands. There have been a couple of modern shows about that but this is pretty good.

The main cast is decent and Simon Cadell is excellent as a rather nasty SS officer.

The After the Battle series with all the "then and now" shots has an excellent book on the Chanel islands showing the bunkers and the remains that were around for collectors for a while after the war. I rather love this series, fascinating to see what things looked like and how everything has been so well rebuilt.
