Default A Space:1999 Christmas

With the Doctor Who Christmas Specials being so popular, can one imagine a Space:1999 Holiday Special?? it's amazing that Year 2 didn't have an official Christmans episode. I can imagine a giant Christmas Tree spaceship approaching Alpha. Or instead of Magus, Father Christmas makes an appearance with sleigh and flying reindeer. His elves have abandoned him and promises the Alphans to return them to Earth. But the Alphans have to replace the elves in making toys. John ends The Bringer of Joy with saying "It is better to recieve toys than to be the one forced to make them"...

You mean he's gonna produce from the afterlife? Think of the stories that could be told...

I realise that this thread was started in a somewhat comedic vein, but since the topic is Christmas in Space: 1999, I was reminded of a serious short story I read a few years ago. I always liked this short short, and may have even posted a link to it before, but here it is. Enjoy!

I actually scripted a Space:1999 Holiday Spectacular for UFO:1999. Like many ideas, it was left to gather dust by others associated with the project.
Anyway, using clips with new effects (Lights come on on Alpha, Sandra says, "It is beautiful, like fish scales", etc.) and a lot of reediting (Tabor appears as a Grinch), but along comes Santa/Father Christmas to save the day, landing Eagle like in a Martin Bower style spaceship/sleigh. In the final frames it begins to snow on Alpha as the Aphapns run to the windows of Main Mission to look out at the miracle of snow.
Oh yes, I think it would have been absurd enough to be gag-inducingly funny!
Though the bit was never done, the idea for a Christmas Spaceship remained and became a reality a few eeks back...see the "x mas thread".

Interestingly, Koenig does mention Christmas on page 109 of the novel 'Earthfall' that I am currently reading.

He asks Helena how long they have been in space since Breakaway.
She replies that it must be almost four months now, to which Koenig says "Which means we have missed Christmas and are now in the twenty-first century. A pity, we missed the chance for a celebration. Our first Christmas in this new universe."

Somehow, though, I think tinsel, crackers, party-poppers and paper hats would not have been in keeping with the serious tone of Season 1 on tv !

However, it would have been in vogue for Year 2.
