And I think it is silly to have all this speculation on women or coloured actors taking the role. There has never been any indication that a timelord can change sex or ethnicity during a regeneration. Yes we have seen female Gallifreyans, and female timelords, but there has never been any hint that a single timelord can be both time lord and time lady at different stages of their life.

And my vote is still for Richard E. Grant. He did a wonderful job as the Doctor in the webcast "Scream of the Shalka" on the Dr Who website, and I believe he deserves a full crack of the whip so to speak.

Totally fair comment mate. Every man and his dog are throwing specualtion into the arena of debate about this, and after all it's only a TV show, but the race and sex change stuff is just daft. We have seen black Time-Lords recently and we know of course there were female ones too but like you say all this talk of jumping around all over the place with the characters race and gender is mostly just 'paper talk'. People today are so bound with being, or sounding, 'PC' that they worry about speaking out against these rumours for fear of being branded a sexist or racist. Nonsense! If they remake BARBARELLA I want to see a woman in the role and not a bloke and when they remade SHAFT I was pleased to see Samuel L Jackson in the role and not someone like Mel Gibson for example. It does make me laugh when there was so much fuss about Daniel Craig being a 'Blonde Bond' yet some of the papers would have you believe that the country would be happy to see Oprah Winfrey as the Doctor!!!!! Not long to wait now though. I agree Grant would be great but maybe a little old now as I understand that the producers like the idea of a younger 'Doctor' to create a hint of sexual tension with his companions. This obviously proves popular with audiences now but as a kid I was happy for the more fatherly approach of Troughton and Pertwee. All the same though who'd have thought that just a few years ago we'd have never believed the public and media interest in a show that was largely looked upon then as a kid's show or gimpy 'anorak' television.

I totally agree with the "PC" comment. Not sure who i'd like to see as the Doctor though, i really like Tennant as the Doctor TBH.

We may end up with a great Doctor again but again we won't know until later whether he is black, white, old young or whatever. The people behind the show now do seem to be good at selecting appropriate artists so however they go I am sure we'll be happy and grow to enjoy his interpretation of the role. The clock is ticking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Default Mmmmm

When did any of the early actors get so much off- subject off-air coverage ?, we keep getting the facts about the men themselves, they are the Doctor and that's all we should need to know.
I Fancied someone who had a bit of anger in Him / Her, hope this new yung'n doesn't do Doc'tr all streetwise.
Long time to wait...Cheers and Happy New Year to all..Ian

Never heard of him - I suspect the doctor has just jumped a generation of viewers and those of us older than 40 might just lose interest in the series.
Still, I'll give it a go and see what they make of him.

That's exactly what I was going to say - never heard of the bloke!!!! Seems programme makers insist on only giving parts to youngsters these days (sure signs of getting old!). I think Richard Wilson would make a good Doctor but after playing Victor Meldrew he is probably too cosely associated with that charater to be considered for this role, but I doubt anyone his age would even be considered for this part anymore.

Well, I don't know who he is, but I really think he ought to re-apply when he has had to learn to shave!

Things go on like this and 12 will be a schoolboy, 13 a baby!
