Excellent bit of work
But that would have taken me 6-months, not just Christmas! I think you might have possibly been preparing for a while?
I don't think I have ever seen a Robert puppet replica before, is this a World first?

BLOODY HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Incredible. I don't know where to start. Obviously a puppet but the work involved must parrallel those of a model maker. I remember seeing a photo many, many years back at a comic mart in Westminster. (Anyone else remember those) A dealer had commissioned one I beleive but to be honest it was so long ago I can't recall if it was any good or not. Whatever, this one certainly is! The finish is glorious and so beautifully clear looking if you know what I mean. The inner workings look very close to me to being bang on but I am not a 100% FIREBALL XL5 expert. Given the work on the rest I am sure you've researched big time and they are though. I am in no position to even begin to do anything like this but I'd love to hear some background. Again not something I am likely to be able to afford but would you make these for other people like some of the puppet and model guys do? So many questions sorry! Love the display stand and just about eveything really. Amazing! (PS I assume this is puppet sized maybe 20+ inches or something or smaller or what? Again sorry for all the questions but this really has set me off.)

I don't recall seeing one either. Great work, Steve, it looks a million dollars.

Been to meet The Boss today!!!

Thanks to you all for your kind comments.

Mark 42.

I did the drawing before Christmas to be able to order the material. I scaled all the dimensions from photographs. Knowing the width of Steve's smile was the most important dimension of all, as this let me establish the diameter of the upper body from a photo of Robert and Steve sat together at the controls of XL5, and everything else followed on from that.

Jim L.

I seem to have lots of material left over due to having to order minimum quantities of each size of tube, so I could make others.

He is actually "full size" and is 23" to the top of the aerial.

Outstanding work ! I'm sure that you've put more than a few hours into this. This is the first replica of Robert I've seen or heard of . Well done mate !

I know someone who has always fancied one of these and it may kick start his imagination again.

Oh ! I was going to ask, what has happened to old Steve ? Has he been battling against some giant killer space moths lately ?

It is moth damage as he was neglected in someone's loft for many years. It's original so that's how it stays.

Quite breathtaking!
At least you don't have to match paint jobs!

I've often thought about doing a perspex Dalek (to match one from an episode I forget) but working in this material has always put me off. maybe I'll give it a go.

Steve Zodiac and the Space Moths - now there's an idea for a 'lost' episode.

Masterful workmanship.

You are probably thinking of the materialising Dalek as featured in either the Colin Baker story "Revelation of the Daleks", or the Sylvester McCoy story "Remembrance of the Daleks"

Personally, the Sylvester McCoy one is the better story and has the benefit of featuring the late Michael Sheard in it.

BLIMEY! You are the bloke with the real Steve Zodiac puppet. Hi! We've spoken at cons when you've displayed him. We spoke at The National Film Theatre too. Great to see him again and also gotta say this is amazing work on Robert. Brillaint to see Robert and Steve together again sort of thing. Nice picture!
