Default 1/144 Zombite Craft

Yes thatís right I intend to make a Zombite fighter from the Thunderbird episode "The Uninvited".

It all began at Christmas on the 25th of December when I got two Revell model kits. One a F/A-18C Hornet

and a F-104G Starfighter. Already I was amazed at the two model kits, but it was only when my dad told me that the F-104G Starfighter is the main body of the Zomebite Craft that I became excited. It was from there that I was desperate to make a Zombite Craft. However, there was only one problem, I need the other model kit necessary to begin making the kit.

That kit was the B-58 Hustler. However I did not get for Christmas, so I began to make the F-A 18C Hornet.

Once I had finished that, I began searching the web for places where I could buy the B-58 Hustler. However, as the F-104G Starfighter was a 1/144 size, the B-58 Hustler had to be as well. Finding it was not easy.

I found out that there was a 1/172 by Revell and a 1/148 but no 1/144. I checked on eBay where I discovered a 1/144 size model by a company called Hoboy. However, I am not a great fan of eBay, I continued looking on the web.

I did discover that the Hoboy 1/144 was very popular over in America, but not in England. I then discovered a English website called Magic Toy Box that sold a B-58 Hustler 1/144 by a company called Academy.

I was frilled when it arrived and began looking at pictures of the Zomebite craft from the model from the picture of Tobor2's craft.

I will also have to make the logos that will go on the side of the crafts.

This will be challange!

There's a couple of people on here (me included) who would be happy to knock up the graphics on a PC for you quite quickly if you could get them printed on decals.

Default Zombite Pictures

If anyone has more Zombite Craft pictures please post them on, as I need them to work out what to paint on the crafts.

Default Zombite Drawings

Here is a crudely draw sketch I did of the Zombite Craft.

The F stands for Starfighter
The H stands for Hustler

the publication "Model & Collectors Mart" did a series on making GA aircraft, including this one, some time ago. I believe they have stopped publishing by now, but you may be able to find someone with copies of these articles.

Default Zombite Logo

My dad Ian Stewart kindly used a special program where he was able to take the picture of the Zombite Logo and recreate a more precise version. Which I will use to put on the side of my completed model.

Default I've Begun

Well I have begun making my Zombite craft.

I've started making the front of the Starfighter, which mainly consists of the cockpit; I haven't put the plastic cover on the top as I am thinking of putting a model in the cockpit. If anyone has any ideas please comment.

I have also put the back of the Starfighter together. As you can see the Zombite Craft doesnít have the original tail fin, so I have cut it off.

What is the pilot from the Starfighter like. Could you use that suitably painted?

Hi Meritamis, I look forward to seeing your build and finished model. Thanks for the logo, Iíve downloaded it. It will be very useful for my zombite build.
Here are some scans of the model & collectors mart articles. I only have the last three, (Zombite, Red Arrow and the fighter from the episode Cham Cham). I know there were earlier articles, I think they were aircraft from Stingray. If anyone has these and wants to sell the magazine or scan the articles, please let me know.

Default Starfighter Part Complete

I have merged the front and the back of the plane together with added adjustments.

As you can see from this image there are two long bits on the top of the crafts. They are two halves of a missile from the Starfighter kit.

You can see at the back of the craft I have replaced the tale fin with two tale fins. The two parts were originally joined together and would of gone on top of the original tale fin.

Now if you look carefully at what the Starfighter should look like you will see at the front of the engine there is some kind of pointy thing sticking out.
This however is not seen on the Zombite crafts from the episode and the craft created by Tobor.

So I was trying to find out why my one had the pointy thing on it. Then I came across this picture on Toborís website.

This picture shows that on the kit used to make the Zomebite crafts, the pointy bit was capable of being removed. So with my craft I had to file the bit off.

I would like to say thank you to Tobor for allowing me to use two of his pictures.

Default Zombite Crafts in Comics

I recently remembered that I had some old comics, which had the Zombite crafts in them.

These first two pictures are from the comic issue "Thunderbirds The Comic" which were published when I was about one year old. In issue Number 61, they did a continuation of the story "The Uninvited". It tells that all the people in the Pyramid of Kamandadees survived the explosion by escaping to an underground bunker. With the Hoods help they intend to destroy International Rescue.

The next two pictures are from a comic adaptation of "The Uninvited". You can see in the drawings, that the pointy thing has been drawn on the crafts.

Remember that photograph in the comic is Martin's recreation and not the original. Still a useful guide though.

I thought it was made by Martin Bower.

The model in the Thunderbirds comic was made by Martin Bower, probably in the early 1990s. The original would have been made by the AP Films studio modelmakers in 1964/65. Martin would have been able to take more time to build a model that would look good in photographs, while the AP modelmakers would have made the originals knowing that they would probably only be seen very briefly on TV screens.
