Default Gort head

[IMG][/IMG]hi all
thought i,ll try something different, a scratch built gort
from the original day the earth stood still,
its lifesize, little bit more work and should be fine...
hoping to get the visor to move up and down
got some light sorted for the laser ...
cheers

I have not seen the film in ages, but after seeing your first picture, I can't picture the colour of the visor. Was it red or green? All I can imagine is a gloss black helmet with metallic red visor for some reason.

Looks the part to me. We don't actually see the colour of the eyes/ray, as its in b&w. It was red in the latest effort. I should say I haven't seen the advertising for the original so perhaps that has the colour you need.

The people who do take this stuff seriously have the original puppets and costumes and artwork and....Eagles too mate. It's as simple as that really. Some people take it seriously and some maybe not quite seriously enough. It is down to the individual where you want to go with it I guess.

Did I get the wrong impression then? I thought that was for a movie poster, one of I don't know how many, that graced the outside of a theatre to advertise which film was showing.

Or is it the original art, 1 of a kind, that was used to make the movie posters?

No I think you got it right. It's 'just' a poster used to advertise the movie but these things were thrown away the next week by and large by theatre owners and you won't find too many of them these days. Nobody had any idea that some of these now recognised classic movies would be admired fifty or more years later. Same goes for comics and all the rest. A landmark movie poster like this with gorgeous artwork will always pull in these kind of prices at auction. Same goes for stuff like FORBIDDEN PLANET or the lenticular 2001 poster. If people love this stuff and put their money where there mouth is good luck to them I say. I'm pleased to know that at least someone owns them and they are not all lost or destroyed.

I am sure there are people who think you crazy for making the Gort head, or for guys like Chris and David to have spent years measuring and remeasuring small parts of a model to get it right or for someone to pay thousands on a car. It is just down to the individual and I would have thought anyone on this site in particular would understand, or at least have an acceptance of a, certain degree of fanaticism for a subject or aspect of a subject especially given that we are all here through a shared interest in a thirty year old science fiction show. Isn't that just a bit crazy too.

This is an auction price.

If you are a serious collector you would have to be prepared to pay about 15% buyers premium on top of the winning bid as well.

For a poster in top condition collectors will pay the price, and yes the premium on top. That's of course why people find themselves sitting on top of utter fortunes hidden away in the homes from many years earlier. Some of the toys people have pictured on the Toys from childhood thread are worth not as much, but a small fortune none the less.

Back on topic a second, I had a friend around last night and I showed him this thread. The first thing he said, was "Look at the Nazi flag in the background of that picture". This must have been what made me think of the gloss black/metallic red colour scheme for the helmet. Sort of a SF Nazi rocket-trooper idea.

Mind you, he thought the actual helmet was stunning!
