Default The New Blake 7's Liberator?

Considering that there is a new Blake 7 remake on the way I found the image below (which is being used to sell projector screens) both puzzling and interesting.

Could it be the new Liberator? Probably not. But it's definitely a variation on the original Liberator. Chances are it's just a fan effort or a marketing tool, different enough to not infringe copyright.

It looks like it's flying in both directions at once!

My old Airfix kits used to end up looking like that.

I guess everyone's heard the anecdote about Ian Scoones delivering the just-built Liberator miniature to Martin Bower for detailing, when Martin asked him "Why is the cockpit green?"

I think I've posted this before, it was a while ago, but when I showed a little Corgi Liberator to my daughter, she looked at it for a second and said "Is that the front or the back?"

I'm with Martin on this one. When Liberator was showing the shots of his great build I first wondered why the cockpit was that colour, then I realised which and was which and sad nothing about it till now. It looks like its flying backwards.

No; there are no plans available.

You will have to gauge the size from reference material. Or use the Comet Miniatures kit and scale it up (it scaled down from the original owned by Mat Irvine) as it's very accurate in shape- abet very small!

You will need a very sturdy metal armature to keep all that weight in place. And even then the top nacelle will twist out of line no matter what you do.

Also you will have to get the rear ball 'custom blown' and that means you won't get much change out of £800!

Good luck

I hope it's not the Libertator even though it resembles it. If they're including it in this new series [ they better bloody had! ] they don't need to change the look of it much if at all.

Default Liberatator

Cheers guys

The Armature is a must ,but what i was thinking was while i am making the main parts ,i'll take some casts but in fibreglass ,and they will wrap around the steel frame, like an easter egg two parts that when joined around the frame make for a strong joint,

all this will be started some time in the summer after this Eagle is Finshed ,

Interesting.. thanks for pointing this out.

David E. Carey has an illustration of the new Liberator from the audios on the cover:

No, no, no, no, no!

Suppose I shouldn't expect too much from a guy that is obviously delusional and psychotic though. To quote from the website about the TV remake of B7from October '08.

And the new BSG DIDN't have overblown visual effects? I personally don't think most of 'new who' had that good a set of stories, either, so that quote comes across to me as being more than a little schitziod.

It does look like a rather cheap and nasty CGI update - probably took a rainy afternoon to model it. I know I'm an amateur, but even I'd be ashamed of that.

Boo!

That's one of the annoying things about CGI, it's very easy to produce something that looks really bad.

I appreciate they're being 'vague' about details, perhaps wanting to 'reveal' the ship at a later date - but it doesn't look promising.

Bog standard Sci-fi CGI blue/grey too. Bah!

B7Media's "audio" Liberator is quite different to its TV counterpart, for example it doesn't have a teleport (they use shuttlecraft), and it doesn't have an auto-repair facility (little robots do the repairing).

I did something similar with my "biggie" Liberator - the original Liberator model used in the series was mostly constructed using EMA tubing, but on mine the weapon pods are very lightweight fibreglass castings. They are about one-third of the weight of the "master" I made from EMA. Mine doesn't have a full armature, there's something to support the mounting pole ... and that's it! The pods/pylons bolt on to the hull (EMA's ABS tube is very strong). Here's a photo to show what I mean:

The wooden frame is basically a square with a bit sticking out for the support pole receiver.

You (and anyone else, for that matter) are more than welcome to have a wander through my Photobucket account, there are lots of construction photos included.

Cheers,

Phil

In the audios everyone is terrified of Liberator- including Blake and those on board.

I'll have to get hold of a copy of these. Sounds like yet again, some wanna-be- scifi suit has ruined a great idea. What must Terry Nation be thinking up there about this???!
