No Royal Navy ship had 16in guns at that time.

One of the most laughable, yet oddly interesting effects techniques I have seen is in a movie called 'The Underwater City'. It's from the 1960s and is about some scientists living in an underwater city - more like a large diving than a sprawling city such as Titanica. Anyway the scientists often venture outside onto the sea-bed checking for earthquakes or something... and these shots are all done dry for wet, with the actors trudging along a set of the ocean floor - lead boots not swimming. Nothing new or remarkable there. What is unique I think to this film is the idea to simulate the trails of oxygen bubbles trailing off their scuba gear with something that looks like a bubble blower like a kid would use to blow bubbles in the playground. Each diver has bubbles spewing out of their backpack.... And yes, it looks as good as it sounds. The bubbles for most part drift upwards in pretty straight lines, but it looks pretty funny.. sort of like a high budget episode of 'Crackerjack'. It's a pretty dreary movie otherwise although I think Julia Adams from 'The Creature from the Black Lagoon' is in it.
