Default Two Main Mission towers?

Oh please, don't get me wrong, of course there's only
one tower on Alpha but maybe it was depicted using
two different models.

As many of you, since i have the new HD source (ITV and Blu-Ray)
my life stopped, i take all my spare time to over-analyze each and
every frame of the show and i came across a new observation
(at least for me) last week.

You remember when Paul is trying to make contact with the alien ships
in Wargames ? We see this image and are assuming that's Main Mission
and the transmission originates from that building.

Wrong ! That model has a similar shape, if not identical to Main Mission but at a smaller scale. It was used in other episodes also like here in The Last Sunset :

Now, if you really want to compare both buildings next to each other,
take a look at the following pictures :

As you can see, it has a similar shape and it's a lot smaller than the main one.

I don't know if someone here has an explanation for that,
because to me, it doesn't make any sense.

And please, no story-side extrapolation or speculation 'A la year 2' like :

''Duh ! maybe it's their spare Main Mission that retracts below
the lunar surface in case of emergency ... and ... and .. and ...'' no please !

My best guess is when they built the large buildings, the smaller tower
didn't meet Brian's requirements, maybe he asked for a more impressive
Main Mission tower with more details on it, and a lot larger than the first one.

As you can see, it is quite big, and this one has a solid floor too,
with the help of the gemini part in the blue circle, i assume the floor is
half-inch thick, so this model could be heavy too.

I know they tried to match all the models at their best, with different
scales and the main set too, i think they did a wonderful job despite the
fact that almost 40 years later some weirdos would analyze their work,
but 2 towers ? Come on !

Maybe i should get a life !

None of the close up models of the Alpha buildings are even close to the correct scale of the main moonbase model. Only the launch pad miniatures appear to be the correct size and shape. The close up main mission tower is way way smaller than what it should be, And the window placements on all of the close up miniatures are spaced wrong. The way they have them there is no room for a floor between the lower window and the one above.
Explanation: They are just models with detailing for close up filming. Just like the close up moonbuggy miniature. which is also out of scale with the buildings.
They never thought all these years past we'd (the fans) would be checking the models out so closely. They were just made to look great on the screen without concern for correctness to the main table top model.
Upon doing research for my blueprints, 2 and a half Main Missions with Commander's office can fit length wise back to back inside one of those 4 popped out sections of the Tower + shape. and there are 3 floors in the tower.

I'd just like to point out that Keith did a nice job fitting the Main Mission set into the tower in the way he describes. (Sadly, I've only ever seen a scan of it online, as I missed the blueprint sets he made so long ago.)

Thanks guys for the compliments. Of my newly draw blueprints is a completely redrawn updated blueprint of Main Mission. I have also redrawn Starlog's Command Center. I am currently drawing the interior plans for the Main Mission Tower.
If all goes right new stuff will be available soon. One way or another.

I never noticed the extra Main Mission building in those photos or even while watching the show...That's wild.

Isn't the central column under Main Mission shorter on the smaller model too (in the Moonbase Alpha thread)? It looks too tall here.

First off Neo, great catch!! You've got a real "eagle" eye!

Second, you don't need to get a life, you've obviously chosen one! Welcome aboard

Third, your assumption that the shot has to match Pauls lines in the ep could be argued. Not sure there was a concerted effort in the series to tie the actors lines and their positions on the base with exterior shots.

Anyhow, another reason to watch War Games again!!

Yes, please certain of the fact that I am serious about a new release. With the help of the new studio model blueprints being released I can correct any mistakes on my moonbase prints before release. As I mentioned I am figuring out the floor plan of the Main Mission tower and have already drawn the tower's round base hub showing the travel tube's main terminal on the surface level. (Looks a lot like LAX! LOL)
