Default Rose & The end of the world

I know it's been a little while for you folks in the UK. But the SciFi channel
Just started running the new Who last night.
I thought the background music was a little cheesy at first, but by the end
of the world I was very much enjoying the show I think I'll keep it

Many referances were thrown in going back to the 8th Doctor book series.
I wasn't able to find all the books in the series I know the doctor
destroyed all the Galifrey's so he's the last Time Lord. I just wish I could
find that book so I'd know why exactly he had to do it.

Anyway, I think it's a great show. I can't wait for next Friday.

Good man! I really enjoyed that series (there were a few cheesy episodes, but some lovely tongue-in-cheek ones).

The thing about the Doctor this time is that there is a back story which is shown bit-by-bit as the series progresses - I'm saying nothing so not as to spoil it.

I actually never read any Who books, so can't comment on that one.

Looking forward to the second series and the proposed spin-off.

I think I posted this in the wrong forum. oOps.

Anyway, it's really a shame the 8th Doctor didn't make it as a weekly.
There are some really good progression lines there. Hope to see some
of them recounted in the new series.
I'd love to see his companion again (I've forgotten her name )
she turned out to be the last TARDIS, Type 101.

All a thing of the past now. Everyone seems to be enjoying the new companion, Martha. I must say I like the new Dr. He's good in the Tom Baker style. Lots of fun and still scary....lots of Zombie stuff...keep walking towards you and nothing can stop it.

It was doing OK until Catherine Tate was announced as the new companion. Ugh!

Russell T Davies can't write consistent Doctor Who, it's either got fantastic moments in or gut wrenchingly awful moments in. And don't get me started on why Mark Gatiss was allowed to write and appear in episodes. Or how the Dalek and Cyberman storylines have been almost ruined.

If I may post a link to comments about the recent news on guest stars for the new series, I think I'll be watching the new series of Torchwood at my ex's. It seems far more promising.

Yeah, I know, grympy old fart...

NO! I saw her in the Christmas special and was completely turned off by her portrayal. So, is Martha leaving so soon? Too bad, I've really liked her in the episodes aired so far in the States. And I hope Torchwood makes it over here. The write ups look very intriguing, and 'Jack' is very easy on the eyes!

Addendum... I followed the link above. It seems I'm not alone in my dislike for Tate's companion character. Perhaps she won't last all that long.

I've watched the first season of Torchwood and loved it! A little bit too "Adult"
though for the overly virtuous American audience (i.e. the Fascist censors
won't like it!! )

Torchwood's great. It has however been put back to midnight because its Sci-Fi and doesn't get the ratings. Typical

I was always partial to Pertwee, but he was my 'first' Doctor, so that's no surprise. I have long suspected that Bessie was a better companion than quite a few on the later, human ones. I remember shedding a few tears when Baker's incarnation regenerated, and I do quite like the two new actors. Eccleston was phenomenal IMO, and I was sorry to see him leave so soon.

I thought that episode was rather good. Even had Sarah Jane. (MILF )
Only one eppy so far that I really didn't care for. The Guy invents the
youth machine that turns him into a giant Scorpion creature. The whole
thing just seemed a bit staged to me.

The Sarah Jane episode was referenced on the cover of Doctor Who Magazine. Sarah Jane wearing black leather as I recall. Had quite a prominent position in the local WHSmith and more than a few folk my age or older picked it up and started meowing or purring...

My ex's 5 year old boy saw me pick his copy of DWM up and make approving noises. He asked who she was.

"That's Sarah Jane. You know how you like Rose?"
*nods*
"Well when I was your age I liked Sarah Jane. She travelled with the Doctor then"
*in comes Mummy*
"And Jamie still likes Sarah Jane, doesn't he?"
*nods*

Can we substitute Sarah Jane for that strident, unpleasant companion Catherine Tate played, and I imagine will recreate? Please?

All I'll say is that I remember Romana...as played by Mary Tamm.
