Default Supermarionation Weekend - Sci fi Channel

Apologies if this is been mentioned before but the Sci fi Channel are showing back-to-back GA puppet programmes over the holiday weekend. Today, Thunderbirds, Stingray and Joe 90.

I wish our SciFi/SyFy network had the insight to do that. Even if they only gave the American public a 'taste' of the shows, I bet they could get a devoted fan base if my kids are any indication.

Thunderbirds is being shown in widescreen format - that aside the picture quality appears a bit sharper than previous Tv outings. I therefore assume these are the HD versions. I have a HD television but, don't subscribe to a HD service - still there is a slight but discernible picture quality improvement.

Our version of the Sci Fi Channel would not even think of showing any GA show. They quit well over 10 years ago and now pander to what they consider a hipper crowd. I'll never forget 9/13/99 and how they chose to do a Fartscape marathon that day. I penned a few unused lines about their programming in our little productions, but I think only the ads for the re imagined Stingray made it to final form. If I had the time, I'd gladly join in a marathon of my own. I'm currently seeing Fireball XL5 for the first time and Supercar should arrive this summer.
Ironically, one of the reasons I begged our former cable company to add SciFi was to see all the old Gerry Anderson stuff!
I don't miss them!

I remember watching some Thunderbirds & Captain Scarlet on Sci-fi years ago. Now, I just wish I could find region 1 versions of Space Precinct and the New Captain Scarlet!!

Watched a couple of T-birds episodes to see how the HD quality transfers looked - didn't seem to be a huge image improvement on the small flat screen I was watching. Probably needed a bigger screen to get the best effect. Curiously though, the repeat on the Sci-fi plus one hour channel seemed to crop the HD transfer image from the sides, leaving even less of the original frame ! The scene in Perils of Penelope where Sir J. gives Penny a light in the back of Fab One was also significantly edited...

The SCI FI channel (UK) is now advertising "Supermarionation Fridays", starting this Friday evening (today).

2 episodes of Joe 90, 2 of Stingray and 1 of Thunderbirds!

Never saw any of these series as a kid in the Ohio area and have only seen Thunderbirds since... Really wish some network would pick up on all of these in the US.

Yeah, our US SciFi channel is more interested in showing wrestling than actual scifi.
