Not for a while- last time I saw it was when it was on the tv in the 80s. I remember it having a disturbing nuclear war scene where things were melting and catching fire, and a big billboard with 'standard life (insurace) for all your life) in the foreground. But, I might be wrong... I was only 12 at the time

Nuclear explosion from the movie(which is a smoke bomb). While shooting the movie, the BBC got in trouble with local police when they detonated a large smoke bomb in order to simulate a nuclear explosion. Members of the public, who were not aware that a movie was being shot, panicked and thought that a real explosion had occurred.

I have the movie on DVD and I also have the movie "The Day After". I would have to say "Threads" is much more powerful. It is the type of movie that you do not want to watch before bedtime.

If anyone wants to see the actual movie I have a link here:

I would like a commentary of the movie after you have finished. I know for some of you it has been over 25 years since you last seen it.Again, its a very gritty and sometimes graphic depiction of a nuclear attack on Britain. There are no cuts on the film.

I'd never watched that before. Thanks for the link. Spellbinding. I remember The Day After and it was not a patch on that. Brilliant. Very glad we veered away from that scenario... well at least until now, and hopefully for good. We shall see.

A scary, important film that's surely seared into the memory of Cold War kids like myself. Well worth bringing it up, 'eaglewingone'.

Seems appropriate to post these links:

Dr Kane and Tony42

I am very glad that you liked the movie. An interesting fact. Carl Sagan was hired as an advisor to the movie.I still urge everyone to see the movie.

One of the main reasons I like Dr Strangelove was the wonderful way it made the whole notion of one of these wars look rediculously stupid. Far too many looked beyond the satire and went with Strangelove's selling of the war at the end while the Russian guy sets the bomb and sneaks out. There are still people who believe we could win such a thing, and still countries in dire straights otherwise who are trying to build arsenals. How dumb are we.....

Another powerful movie was "The War Game" which the BBC for years banned it. Here it is if you have the heart to see it.
