Default Space:1999 - towards a Blu-ray edition

As most forum members may know, the series has been carefully remastered in HD by BBC Studios and aired by ITV HD back in 2006.

Any ideas or suggestions to propel a Blu-ray release in the not-so-distant future? I've read that massive requests to Amazon appear to have worked for other series and movies, so I guess it could be worth trying (how many of us are there after all?).

The beauty of detail and accurate color rendition of an HD release would also make it an invaluable source of reference material only surpassed by the original 35 mm prints.

Have the HD transfers been cropped to 16:9 like they did with Thunderbirds?

I don't believe so.

'martin' at the Catacombs site could probably fill you in more.

Yes, they did make a 16:9 cropped version. This was shown on the ITV-HD trials.
AND they made a non-cropped version.

So which gets released depends on the distributor - they have the choice. Which will they pick?

Fingers crossed for the un-cropped version. Thanks for the update, Martin.

Is there any word on who the distributor would be, and is there any way of contacting them to express our preference to get the uncropped version released?

It's probably a bit late to get things altered now. I'm hoping for an uncropped release but they seem hell bent on releasing widescreen version for today's TV plebs. One hardly likes to mention that such thinking instantly removes practically any classic movie made before the 1960's from the release catalogue. Cropped TB's hasn't sold that well so hopefully they might put two and two together. I mean, who do they think is buying this blasted stuff?

Default Space: 1999 on BluRay

I have heard tonight from a good friend that Space: 1999 is coming out on Bluray in September. Not only that but it will have brand new extras on it too.

Apparently sales of The Prisoner on Bluray have been excellent so this has encouraged them to release Space too.

Anyone else heard this?

Cheers

By coincidence, I was trawling through the Network website yesterday - There was no info to be had - However now ITV1 HD is up and running, there's a good chance they may repeat the HighDef "Series One" that they Test Transmitted two years ago when nobody could watch.

The whole series has already had the high def digitisation mastering done (2+ years ago?) in anticipation of a Blu-Ray release. I thought it was originally planned to be released last summer but that date came and went. It will happen but I'd be very wary of putting any date to it yet.

Really? I wasnt aware that Season 2 had been remastered in HD - I thought only Season 1 and The Metamorph had been remastered? If that's the case, I wonder why havent they got them out there on the shelves.

I was referring to series one which is what I thought we were talking about. And I think only two episodes were transmitted in Hi Def on ITV HD.

Was there a series two? I wondered where that character with the funny eyebrows and furry sideburns came from.

That's very good news! Just bought a blu-ray player and a 46 inch flatscreen! 2001 was amazing on blu-ray!

2001 was at the top of my list for Blu-ray movies. And I was NOT disappointed.

Top of mine too, so much so that I bought it before I had a Blu-Ray player to play it on.

Heh, I would go for the entire Space 1999 series mate, as opposed to the cut down version Space 199 as you mention.

Typo what do you mean typo........
