Default "Commissioner Simmonds Office".

Simply a proposal that a new section be created next to the "Troubled Spririt" maybe where all political discussion goes. That includes any item involving a politician or ex politician or political issues like global warming. If it can be arranged that access to view and post has to be granted and that all political discussion (definition as above) MUST go into that section, then that will give anyone who wants to discuss politics on a modelmaking forum the possibility to do so with like minded kindred spirits who will also want to sign up. Once inside, the discussion can get as heated as you like within the bounds of respectful behaviour.

That strikes me as an excellent suggestion.

Agreed. Good suggestion.

The forum has turned into a bit of a rabble at times...

Is there any way I can make that entire forum not show up?

Ditto.

The compression arrow facilty unfortunately compresses all four sections and the postings still appear when you click on 'New Posts'. That was partly why a 'granted access' idea was floated so that none of it clutters the total forum experience except for those who actively want to see it.

Agreed. I would like to block the politics, but not the remaining threads.

I'll look into what's possible, but granting access on a request basis would be a monumental pain in the admin!

I always use the 'New posts' button on forums anyway so whether it's collapsed or not, you'd still see topics.

If you need help with the admin work, perhaps there are willing volunteers. I believe the benefits greatly outweigh the effort, in this case.

I'm maybe missing something here. In the Recreation and Dining section there are now four categories instead of three. If you are not interested in this particular category, you don't need to click on it to see what posts there have been i.e. just ignore it.

Certainly better than asking Mark to do a lot of work, I would have thought.

But as I said, perhaps I'm missing something!

"New Posts" still brings up content from the new category. I (and others) would prefer to ignore it completely. Further, it's a far better thing that newcomers to the forum not be inundated with extremely off-topic subject matter; it lowers the signal-to-noise ratio considerably.

One of the things I like best about this site is little to no political discussions. Theyre are far too many sites where individuals can go and hash it out on political issues...I would see this as a lowering of standards for this site. Additionally I'd comment far too little time was given (considering this siet has international members) to give feedback. I see this as another lowering of standards...Will this site continue it's downward trend?
